Track cycling from Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Scotland just took a gold in tandem para cycling with Neil Fachie.
Was a really nasty spill but they had re-run. Scart stuff - worth watching on catch up. Yesterday had some splendid backtracking including an Elimination Race.
Been on every evening 5.30 till 10.
Nice that para sports are mixed in with schedule. In Gaelic with no subtitles.

BBC Alba's Eòrpa has been in Skye and around looking at the rise and rise of the 'campervanerati'.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002yf78/eorpa-series-34-3-the-camping-carryon

Confirms that for many under 40s having a campervan is the key to being 'outdoors'. In village here some residents have one including a very outdoory neighbour that uses hers as a base over in Glencoe (ski centre there provides parking for some that would have been hut and bothy users decades ago. She does do both using van as a base.)
Of course people still camp and that's governed by the Outdoor Access Code. Campervans are not camping but really 'wild parking'. Like all vehicles they need more resources - well covered in this 30 mins programme.

86 hours and 59 minutes. Average speed of 22kmph over three days (and nights I suppose).
That's quite a result.

Yep Sparkles had to scratch unfortunately, probably too soon after his JOGLEJOG attempt.
I'm rooting for my wee pal Paul Alexander who's a first-timer and taking it steady.

Very exciting to dot watch Trans Alba this year!

The route is a bit different. Glad to see they cut out the section I hated the most -- Dunbartonshire and Erskine bridge.

Lots of Edinburgh based riders!

And it was good to see someone challenging Sparkles. BB is flying!

There is talk of the weather being bad for Bastien but he is far out in the lead. Same tactics as Sparkles used last year to win by miles. The chap in second was maybe 80k behind but ran out of ferry crossings and was caught by the field kind of thing.

GRAND DÉPART GB LAUNCHES CALL FOR TOUR DE FRANCE VOLUNTEERS IN EDINBURGH

The nationwide search is on to find 9,000 volunteers across the country who will be at the heart of the historic Tour de France Grand Départs in summer 2027.

Officially known as JOY Makers, named in line with the Grand Départs’ social impact programme, volunteers will be the heartbeat of both races, bringing the joy of cycling to fans and communities throughout the six stages, and helping to ensure the sport’s most iconic races runs seamlessly.

You can apply now to be a JOY Maker for any of the six stages of the 2027 Grand Départs via http://www.letourgb.com/volunteer with registrations open from Wednesday 27 May until Tuesday 1 September 2026.

Anyone aged 16 and over is encouraged to apply to be a JOY Maker, with no prior volunteering experience needed to share in this once-in-a-lifetime experience - playing a part in what is set to be Britain’s most-attended sporting event, whilst making lasting memories and developing new skills. A range of roles to support event operations and enhance spectator experience are available on both the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, with full training provided.

To mark the opening of applications and launch the programme, TV presenter and broadcaster Radzi Chinyanganya joined a group of current volunteers getting behind the Grand Départs.

Anyone got any good ideas re seeing the start in Edinburgh then getting to Melrose before the cavalcade or at least the peloton?

I think you could, but depends on timing.

Edinburgh to Tweedbank is 47 miles, so a TdF rider might cover that in a couple of hours. Assuming a typical Grand Depart time of something in the early afternoon, say 1300, then after watching the start you could rush to Waverley for the train. You have trains every half an hour, and it takes near enough one hour on the train to get to Tweedbank. If you took the 1343 train for example you could be in Tweedbank by 1442. Maybe allow 5 minutes either side for contingency of getting a bike on and off the train and fighting through crowds.

Melrose is only 1.5 miles down the road from Tweedbank, and slightly downhill, so probably 10 minutes' ride.

So depending on the start time and how long you spend watching, and how far you are from Waverley, and how soon the train leaves, you might just make it.

Or watch the depart, then unfold your Brompton and race a few blocks to someone with a car and belt down the A68 and park somewhere in or near Melrose. Leaderfoot viaduct parking (for example) comes up in about 1 hour 10 minutes but might be full of other TdF fans; Newtown St Boswells in about 1h20. Unfold, dash, spectate. Again, you might just have time.

A road near to me is currently being resurfaced, apparently due to the TdF. It is sad that the roads are considered too dangerous for professional cyclists but the standard is fine for everyday cyclists.

Innerleithen seems to have a few Nimby roasters. I tried to post on their facebook forum that you can turn up early and get a sweetie chucked at you from cavalcade to cheer up yer moaning pusses. This was declined as need to be a member of the group for 24 hours before posting. All their roads will get fixed what is wrong with the hurdies?
