Morningsider, I read it as it's a real terms drop but the 2014-15 budget included funding allocated during the year such as the millions from the FRC underspend. If there is equivalent allocations this year it might actually be an increase.

If I'm right we'll need to wait until much later in the year to find out.

Some cash from the future transport fund was always going to be allocated to walking and cycling. The question was "how much?". The total budget of £36m in 2015/16 is pretty close to that predicted by SPOKES in their most recent bulletin (£37m).

Not quite sure what "...a 12% increase on the active travel budget at the start of the 2014-15 financial year." means though. My gut feeling is that it might not be the same thing as an actual 12% increase - happy to be proved wrong though.

This appears to be good news. Is it real? Or just a re-announcement of previous funding? Are there any 'devil in the detail' catches? Anyone know?

£10 million Active Travel Boost

Greater support for active and sustainable travel.

Active travel in Scotland has been given a £10 million boost thanks to funding announced by Transport Minister Derek Mackay in Glasgow today.

Mr Mackay confirmed the allocation for cycling and walking infrastructure at a meeting with active travel stakeholders.

This latest funding takes the total budget for active travel in 2015-16 to almost £36 million, a 12% increase on the active travel budget at the start of the 2014-15 financial year.
