The advanced green worked well for us after the vigil but they maybe changed to green before we rolled past them?

The new advanced greens are still too close to the ASL, so you have to sidle backwards in order to watch them. And then when they go to green, you put the pedal to the metal and listen intently in case the lead driver behind you thinks it's their green.

Noticed that the junction at Liberton Gardens/Liberton Brae/Liberton Drive has been resurfaced and has advanced cycle signals now. Pavement widened and two stage crossings upgraded to single stage too.

Also, why the bike lanes are only active down that stretch until 9:30AM I don't know either.

It's worse than that - it's 9:15am!

"turning onto Mayfield Road from KB is a particular problem"

Urgh, tell me about it. I come out of the exit up near the lights and had to wait for about 10 cars to pull up to the red light before I could get a gap behind traffic to go yesterday.

I don't think I'll ever understand the unwavering desire some people have to get 10 metres further down the road before they have to stop anyway. It's like an inverse strong nuclear force, pulling in from distance and then repelling.

Also, why the bike lanes are only active down that stretch until 9:30AM I don't know either. That's before peak academic cycle commuting hours into KB.

I'll also say that drivers, so far, have been surprisingly observant. Very few go when the bike green comes on, the driver of the number 7 bus I got tonight being a notable exception.

I use this junction every day.

I also suggested this, amongst other things, to the council a few mmonths ago. I'm extremely annoyed that they've implemented a fairly minor improvement whilst completely ignoring far more significant improvements such as pedestrian crossings on Kirk Brae and Mayfield Road.

Actual experience though: The head start itself is more helpful than I was expecting. I can now get from Mayfield Road to Kirk Brae before the "real" traffic catchrs up, which makes it far easier to take a strong position up the hill.

However, it's still really difficult to actually filter to the front, making it hard to take advantage of any improvement. Indeed, traffic seems to back up further on Mayfield Road than it did before, making it take more light cycles to get through the junction (turning onto Mayfield Road from KB is a particular problem). I can only hope tthis will improve as traffic displaces oon to other routes

All in all, not much use in this particula location without other improvements.

I'm struggling to identify this junction. Possibly what you mean by 'near cameron toll' is different to what I mean by that?

Near Cameron Toll, the junction where Mayfield Rd and Liberton Gardens meet, there are new traffic lights with avanced green for bikes. About 2 seconds headstart. I suggested this to a councillor a couple months back.

Has anyone had the chance to try it out? I'm curious about how well it works, especially on the hill start. And in general how well it works at other junctions.
