Colleague this morning related a story that last night he was pushed into the canal by another cyclist on the viaduct at Slateford.

The miscreant was described as a cross-dressed male who appeared to be mumbling to himself in some sort of Eastern European tongue. My colleague said that as they aproached eachother, he moved in to railings to let the other pass, but other insisted he passed him. As he went to pass, the guy said something indeterminable. When he asked "excuse me?" to the guy, the next thing he knew he landed in the canal, bike and all.

As his phone was ruined, he turned around and managed to tail the guy to Wester Hailes, where he went in to the Police station to try and get some assistance. It appears that the counter staff were less than interested and he wasted half an hour there before giving up.

So, if you find yourself passing someone of a similar description (sounds fairly distinctive) on the canal, just be wary.
