Oh dear, now I remember that I made the mistake of not putting the foot down at the stop sign (they have various road signs and traffic lights that were set up as needed). Oh how embarrassing...

Yeah, the practice course of my old school is visible in Google Earth: https://goo.gl/maps/nNdpBe8pFbR2

The diagonal road looks difficult....

@davidsondave, there was one of those in Aberdeen when I was growing up. Still there I think, though quite worn...

@davidsonsdave My old primary school had such a mockup road plan painted on the school courtyard. Not sure what they do this year as there's a refugee camp on it at the moment.

Oh, nobody's wearing hivis either. Even when visiting a waste incinerator - UK H&S would go ballistic...

In countries, such as Germany, most Towns of modest size have an area with small roads, junctions, traffic lights and road signs just for teaching Children how to ride bikes, etc. safely on the road as well as other aspects of road safety. Something like this

(school) Playgrounds are ideal. The council should have to keep them all open evenings/weekends.

I would have said that most kids get past that stage pretty quickly?

I cycle past kids like this in the meadows/links all the time, but haven't ever seen them as a problem. I do always try to say something encouraging as I go by.

A square patch would be more use than a straight one when starting - my dad took me to an empty car park on a sunday afternoon when I was learning, and it was perfect.

if kids are riding on 'proper' paths, you do need to shout 'keep left' 'LEFT' all the time, but then they get it.

I've filled in the survey monkey for the plans for Roseburn Park. I think they're good on the whole and the park will be better used with a variety of activities, and will also look more attractive with a wild meadow and other plantings.

The cycle route in Roseburn Park is used by parents teaching their wee ones to cycle. Of course I'm all for the moppets becoming mobile but when they are learning they are a hazard, both to themselves and others, as they can't cycle in a straight line and they don't look where they're going.

I thought some kind of "nursery slope" ie a strip of tarmac that goes nowhere and won't be used as a cycling route would be an idea.

Has anyone ideas on this - those who have taught their offspring to cycle?
