Coming down mayfield road from KB with another cycle a few bike lengths ahead of me. A car pulled out from the curb then came to a complete stop, as if waiting for us to pass. Only thats not what he was doing - he was beginning a u-turn which he decided to complete when were right upon him. Very unfortunately the cycle ahead of me hit the car - very fortunately the cyclist was able to slow down sufficiently so that he was not injured as he slid over the car bonnet. However his bike was totalled. Obviously the car's fault for entering our right of way and I explained this carefully to the young driver and his mom who was the passenger. Another car stopped to be a witness so with me and he it should be smooth sailing, but it was very very close to being much more serious.

I had the mom tell me that "in these things its always the car that gets blamed, not the cyclist." I patiently explained that this was far from the truth but even if it was, the cyclist was the one that was a few seconds and a flimsy plastic helmet from death, so wasn't it right that the driver should be cautious? Not sure that sunk in...

Cycling back home from work tonight past Donaldsons saw what appeared to be two cyclists knocked off by a blue VW Polo which had mounted the pavement! Both appeared to up and walking but female rider was sheet white, possibly in shock (said she was a CTC member when I spoke to her). Other guy had blood all over him but was also up and about on the phone.

Ambulance was on it's way although not sure if Police attended.

Stopped to see if they needed any help but felt pretty useless! One bike was under the car with a wing mirror smashed off.

Looked pretty bad!

Looked like a serious incident on the path at about 7.35-7.45. Rider with nasty looking head injury lying in recovery position to the side. Bikes stopped on either side taking care. No obvious reason - no other mangled bikes or injured riders. Guessing perhaps tree debris in spokes but only because I've been avoiding twigs and branches left over from tree thinning recently. Hope the guy's OK.

Cornwall/devon sounding chap gets hit by a women that "saw him"

She appears to believe that she is in the right because there is no way he could have possibly moved from where she saw him. Oh and there are kids in the car so she can't have been a bad driver.

Wilmington's Cow on "Crash With Another Cyclist!"

Okay, that makes it sound more dramatic than it actually was, but now I've sucked you in...

Heading from the Meadows to Tollcross I was filtering on the right of the queue (I could see which traffic was going through the crossroads ahead so had bags of time to get to the ASL). A girl who had been on the inside of the traffic cuts through. I manage a 'whoah!', then there's a coming together of my left pedal with her front wheel. We both stay upright (she was hardly moving, I was going slowly - safe y'see). She immediately apologised saying she wasn't looking. To be honest I should have seen her coming through the gap as well even when concentrating on possible traffic coming towards me.

Anyway, her mudguard had popped out the SKS safety things, which I tried to help her with, but she was better at it than me, and so we set off with a smile and laugh - no damage, no harm (by now a truck was coing the other way, and rather than slow down felt the way to get us to move was to scowl and accelerate - it worked).

It struck me again, although maybe this is because I'm just reasonable when no harm is done, that the immediacy of contact (as in being bale to talk and see expressions and so on) helps defuse any potential issues in situations like this, unlike when you're wrapped in your car and have a bump. Anyway, bizarrely it cheered up my commute.

Was following another rider through the Meadows – up ahead in the cycle lane a couple of cars were over the line and indicating to turn left. A gap opened in front of a van and the rider in front of me nipped down it to filter on the right. I was doing the same thing, something I’ve done a million times before. Unlike him I thought I’d do it safely, and as I moved into the gap checked over my right shoulder to make sure no-one else was coming up the side of the van. Just as I turned to look the car ahead of the van braked cos of the traffic ahead, except I was checking behind me so didn’t see it till the last minute. I swerved, but not by enough and clipped the rear driver’s side. Went straight over the top of the bars at 15-20mph.

The driver was an utter gent. With me in a heap he was already out the door checking I was okay. He pointed out he was a cyclist as well and filters like that too. I checked for damage to his car, but there was none. Well, I saw a small scratch that might have been me, which I pointed out to him, but he was fine about it. He then proved he was a cyclist by asking if the bike was okay. The wheels seemed to spin fine, so I was off again (he let me go first).

Left knee took a big knock and I’ll be feeling that for a couple of days, and took some skin off a couple of fingers. Other than that I managed to land on my head, so no danger of any lasting damage there. In fact I landed on my little headcam, which is still working perfectly. The bike, checked over at work, has not scuff nor scratch. So the only damage is some superficial scrapes on me, and a mortally wounded pride.

Entirely my fault, 100%, no doubt, but I’ve got away with it, and got lucky with the driver of the car being a nice bloke. Bit of a wake up call to getting a bit too confident in traffic!

There IS a video, which I might get online this morning. Worth it just to highlight how good the driver was.
