I haven't been on one of these yet though I am considering it. From consulting various sources I have heard opinions ranging from and between these:

"ordinary cyclists out riding to make a general point without causing excessive disruption"

"hard nose political activists, likely in the pay of EUROPE/THE LABOUR PARTY hell bent on disrupting the lives of HARDWORKING and TAXPAYING citizens of this great country by riding their bicycles and not paying ROAD TAX and jumping red lights and running over old grannies...."

No prizes for guessing where I have seen the second viewpoint but for those who have been what's the actual atmosphere like?

My one and only interaction with Critical Mass was when we were meeting up for the Evening News photo session regarding the tramlines on Princes Street. That happened to be at the same time and place as CM, so we met the entire turnout.

She was very nice, but didn't stay for the photos.

No thank you. Needlessly causing conflict with motorists and further cementing an US vs. THEM attitude. Shortsighted and unnecessary.

Welcome alicebt.

How many people have been turning up in recent months?

CM has been mentioned many times on here. Some people think it's a good idea, some don't...

I think getting lots of people to ride Leith Walk (probably next year) would be good, but not sure it will happen - in Edinburgh.

Let’s make the next Edinburgh critical mass one to remember and have some fun cycling together in this beautiful city of ours.

Critical mass has been happening in Edinburgh for as long as I can remember and it’s a great way to connect with other cyclists, see the sights and remind ourselves the joys of cycling while reclaiming our right to the streets.

The next ride is on 30th November meeting from 5.30pm by the National Gallery on the Mound. Bring yourself, some merriment and of course your trusty bike friend.

If we’re lucky we might also catch some St.Andrew’s Day fireworks from the castle.

See you there!
