I know, that's why I said it! LOL

Then again, maybe you're hinting at that also being a bad thing. In which case you're right!

Well, I gave that a listen tonight. Basically a toned down "The Wright Stuff" from what little (thankfully) I've seen of that programme.

Jeremy Vine, for all his university education and upbringing, never comes across as particularly intelligent. I enjoy Eggheads on BBC2 but my head sinks when I see it's an episode he is hosting. He really asks some inane questions (and I don't mean the quiz ones) on that show and shows a remarkable lack of knowledge, even of current affairs - pretty poor for a newsreader.

I know on the show today (and presumably all his radio shows - I have never listened before), he will act as devil's advocate at times but some of his comments were crass and definitely belonged on a daytime TV <strike>discussion</strike> conflict programme.

I think I may even have heard him stifle a snigger at the dear old man from Bideford when he said he'd been knocked over twice on his bike (of course, I could be wrong - it was radio after all). Talking of that guy, it's all very well championing his camera and message on his hi-viz, but I think he misunderstood the concept of primary, particularly that the guy mentioning it wasn't the one saying "and to hell with any motorist stuck behind". That was Vine.

The only good thing about Jeremy Vine?

He's not Tim Vine.

I'm out - I don't mind idiots phoning in and blaming cyclists, but it pisses me off when it's the radio host doing it.

Apparently we'll never make drivers drive safely so the onus is all on the cyclist.

Seemed quite dismissive of advice to take primary position.

The question is all wrong anyway. It should be "what steps can we take to make cycling safer?"

This is just victim blaming á la Boris.

Even if is the equivalent of the Daily Mail, anything that publicises the problems is beneficial, imo.

More just a warning for anyone listening in who might be unaware of just how riled up Vine's programme can get. There WILL be call after call and text after text saying cyclists ride on the pavement, run red lights, don't have insurance, don't pay road tax, and should be licenced.

Not a personal dig Zenfrozt!

(I'll listen to Vine's show as bizarre entertainment, unless there's a subject I actually know something about, in whcih case it annoys me too much - a bit like Question Time, except without it being entertaining).

I think I saw a stat last night that 9 of the 14 deaths in London this year have involved HGVs, which make up 4% of the traffic.

Do something about the big wagons, massive improvement. But one thing I'd never listen to Jeremey Vine for is reasoned and calm debate!
