I'm all for stricter liability laws. However, I think this is about marketing their product rather than campaiging, not that there's anything wrong in that. Theres no shortage of people think that cycling is only for those with a death wish.

Stats on cycling are already widely known/published.

I think rodm works with Cycle Law Scotland. Brenda Mitchell of CLS speaks out on cycling issues and set up the Road Share Campaign. So I assume the survey will provide some support for their campaigning work and some marketing for their product.

Kept a log of my commutes to record near misses / incidents etc since start of Oct.

The following were notable incidents for me in last 2 months.
Recorded 2 incidents of poor driving, 3 of good driving by cars/vans, 3 of good driving by buses (1 by shitty link!) and 1 of crap cycling.

Hugely less than what others are noting. I dont believe I have a higher tolerance of crapness on the road than others. I do think if I was getting 3 of 4 incidents which could result in my serious injury per trip, I'd take the bus.

Portraying cycling as some death-defying miracle is counter productive. You only need to see surveys like this to realise it.

Yep - I think that's the difficulty with the survey. Near misses are commonplace so it's difficult (and pointless) to focus on one incident.

Jeez I hope you've got plenty bandwidth/memory on your system :-/ if we logged dangerous driving which could cause serious injury but for a riders actions as a near miss (which we should), most regular commuters would be filling in three or four incidents a trip :-(

Hi rodm, I think I met you when I was doing my stint on the Spokes stall at QMU. I hope things are going well. How many times can we fill in the survey? :)

Has anyone ever had a "Near miss" on your bike?

Help us educate all road users by further understanding how, why and where road traffic collisions can happen.

You can find the survey at http://www.cycling-accident-compensation.co.uk/near-misses.aspx

All results will be published in the New Year once we have gathered enough data for the results to be representative and meaningful.

A Council down south decided to install bollards down the middle of a path to separate cyclists and pedestrians. Problem was, they painted them solid white. And there were white lines down the middle of the path too. And then it snowed. Any guesses as to what happened next? (link to the Daily Mail story follows if you can't): http://bit.ly/i3Dj2x
