As ever, you get what you pay for.

The chinese can produce good quality stuff, but western companies have to pay extra for that so those bits of kit tend to be more expensive...

not sure if Endura still manufacturing all their stuff in UK?. Believe they may have gone east too. So in that scenario you are paying more for an item that LIDL/Aldi can have copied cheaply in China.

Like Primark for civvy clothes the stuff is not meant to last and made by chinese children. THis has to be factored in when you purchase

There are also still two large volume cycle manufacturers in the UK.

Pahsley had to drop the all UK bike because they could no longer source the parts.

Brompton Ti is fabricated in China.

Got hope hubs and headset on the tourer, and a Brooks saddle, They are excellent bits of kit, but I have to say the prices are in the enthusiast only bracket!

I bought an Altura jacket last time, and despte the price, I wont be repeating the purchase when the time comes for a new one :-/

Can't speak for their off the shelf stuff but Endura were good for custom design lycra kit :-)

The Aldi stuff might be super cheap, but will it last? Where is it made? And is the merino kosher (to the extent that it might be described as such)?

Should we be giving due consideration to the wider picture, in our bargain hunting ways, that 'sports' products mass produced in the East and hyperconsumed in the West make only for selective support of actions to minimise our environmental impact?

We have Carradice and Trakke making bags, Brooks making saddles, Hope making hubs and brakes, Royce making BBs, Endura making shorts, socks and jackets...and a lot of it is rather more than Aldi or Lidl asks. Maybe paying more in the short term is better if it outlasts the cheap.

I wouldn't bother with the merino better ones come up at about £20 all the time and the microfibre towel isn't its just polyester.

Looks good. I particularly like the 120Watt Halogen front light furth down the page. Wonder what batteries it takes?

Also that carbon monoxide alarm is bound to go off all the time in the city center? no?

[tongue in cheek]
