@DaveS shame about the bike but just shows that you DO represent the general biking consensus as all who passed me that morning fitted your description :)

@spytfyre I'm fairly new to Edinburgh drinking circle wise and have no idea where the Golden Rule is I'm afraid. Will google and see if that helps (maybe not - map reading! So many jokes I'm sure)

Drink sounds fab. Also cant do this Friday (although if Spytfyre is inviting us all to Lego land I'll happily phone in sick!) but can do the following Friday. I finish at 19:00-19:30 but happy to come along once I'm done :)

I don't bother with video anymore as I usually stick to the water of leith and avoid traffic - however that said at the Stockbridge end I often see idiots in cars and vans turning right across my right of way...

@Biker_nurse - is the Golden Rule good for you?
@DaveS - if you figure out a date between youself and the person above who really provided the medical assistance (I just tried to make you laugh) then let the rest of us know. A friday post work would be groovy just not this Friday as I'm away down to LegoLand

I must be doing something wrong. The last time I had anything like a close call was 2-3 years ago when someone passed me at the Govan police station roundabout then went off on the first exit when I was heading for the second.

Any video footage I recorded would be unremittingly dull.

Perhaps local celebrity has advantages.

Yes please. I'm starting to think that a helmet-cam is required equipment these days, just in case of an incident, for insurance purposes, and to present the video-clip to the police as evidence of liability.

Hi everyone. Pub sounds like a great idea. Diggers is our local post-work pub anyway. Wasn't really feeling up to it yesterday, but happy to meet up with anyone who's interested next Friday. Be a good opportunity to buy Spytfyre and Bikernurse a pint in thanks.

@BikerNurse - sadly that wasn't me on the bike yesterday. The bike needs a few repairs over the weekend (as do I)! Unfortunately I had to take the car to work on Friday (I know, I know), but I reckon I'll be fighting fit and back on the bike on Monday.

Re videos: not sure I'm the best poster boy to highlight the plight of the urban cyclist - do people really care about beardy blokes on bikes? Hot girls in tight lycra - yes; middle aged blokes with beer bellies - not so much. However, I do normally wear a helmet-mounted camera. Typically I didn't have it attached on Thursday because of the rain, but I'm happy to share footage of the many, many close calls I encounter every week.

Given DaveS would be heading in from/out to Ratho pre/apres pub I reckon somewhere further West for this one.
Yes the Golden Rule has decent beer, as does the Diggers (and nice wee back rooms), the Caley while having decent beer is beaten by the Diggers imho by the fact Caley plays music that is just on the edge of loud for conversation, Diggers is quiet. Rule plays music too I think but the downstairs bar is comfy and has a couple of big tables with leather couches (last time I was in anyway) that would fit plenty people in.
If some people make it tonight that's great, I just don't think it will be many, I for one can't make it now.

Would be great to meet some of you for a dink at some point although with crazy shifts a little notice would be needed (presuming I am invited!) :D as I'm sure others will too (passes need time to be issued!)
I am almost positive I saw @DaveS on his bike this morning! I got to THE junction at almost the same time and have to say made a point to double check the junction and saw a cyclist riding up, I waited and as he passed I'm positive it was him. So @DaveS if you cycled in this morning an had a blue ish rucksack on I'm very glad to see you upright a d on two wheels again :D

There's occasions when I regret not living in Edinburgh.

Hope you don't mind me tacking this on to this thread but it's vaguely related to the original topic and the new off topic of POP and Andrew. Various things collided in my head as I was pooling to the nursery with my daughter this morning: the question on another thread about whether there's a place we collate incidents, the account of yesterday's crash, MeepMeep's incident etc. I wondered if there was mileage in POP making either little films recording these incidents - where they were, what happened, the impact on the cyclist - or collating a few of them into a longer film that could be used for longer term campaigning. Easy to shoot on an SLR or camcorder and I'm pretty sure I could get some help with editing to make it all look superb.

That road should be ok, very wide, plenty room for everyone - but (junction SMIDSYs aside) cars all drive far too fast, and dont allow for the conditions - I sometimes wish they had to spend a day with the motoring equivalent of rim brakes in the wet.

Delighted to hear of a positive outcome. Never cease to wonder at the arrogance/stupidity of some drivers who seem to suffer from a bit of a God complex when it comes to making room (not) for their fellow road users ...including, it would seem, injured road users lying on the highway.

"Mr SRD says 'there must be a better way to recruit new forumists'."

I disagree.

Two new members after a chance meeting with one existing one?

Better than after PoP28!

Hi @DaveS wonderful to know you are doing ok. Thought you may be bruised and I'd advise a bath or two over the next few days and a bit of pain relief but hopefully you'll be back enjoying the cycling you must love so much (to come out in this weather) very soon :) glad to hear its being worked on and look forward to seeing the improvements. Take care of yourself and ride safe
