Urban reform in the Old Town is often associated with the names of H.D. Littlejohn and Patrick Geddes. The lecture adopts a different perspective, focusing on the many women who effected change in environments in and around the Canongate.

Be great to see you there Uberuce - I've PM'd althouogh let me know if you want me to message you on some sort of other social media platform.

MeepMeep - sorry to hear that but the guys at appellation seem lovely in stockbridge. Fair doos though.

I proposed in a very romantic way which involved almost no bikes (but which was somewhat scuppered from being anywhere romantic by the minstral that was blowing at the time). Anna had just run 18 miles so I figured it was a good time as any to spring it on her. SURPRISE. Seriously though, it was so romantic you'd likely explode.

(I still went and rode an audax the next day to ensure I set the tone of the engagement)

Congratulations, ARC! How did you propose?

Love a good beer tasting but I've found the staff in Appellation Wines in Dalry not overly friendly so not chomping at the bit to book. Don't know if the atmosphere is different in Stockbridge shop though?

Would much rather just go see Chris in Cork & Cask for beer requirements these days.

I know that a few of you are fans of beer, and of tasting said beverage.

My SO (fiancée as of the weekend) is holding a fundraising Beer Tasting Evening for the charity Dermatrust on Friday the 20th March. She's also running the london marathon for them a month or so later. She's looking to raise quite a bit o dosh but wanted to have some fun events too so she's doing this beer tasting! Poster below. Please PM me for more details but the bare bones are
*9 beers (varying sample sizes)
*a led tasting by a beer expert (not me)
*snacks
*6:30 at appelation wines in stockbridge on Friday 20th March
*Tickets £16 of which most of it goes to charity.

Be great to see some of you there. I have bought a ticket (and not because I had to)

I'll just say that I envy people able to leave their houses without having to faff about taking precautionary measures against burning or getting heatstroke and leave it there.

Hopefully it got a few people doing a bit more trundling than they otherwise would on paths they might be unfamiliar with, but there were a fair few people who might have benefited from being introduced to the concept of polite cycling (and of 'other people' or 'dog leads') before hitting the paths.

It wasn't that sunny. In any case most of the paths in North Edinburgh are well shaded by trees, so you'd be hard pressed to get a tan or sunburn methinks.

Six year old son and I had great fun finding all the stalls, he leapt off the tagalong with the card to get it stamped at each. I can see him riding brevets when he's older...

It was good to see so many families out cycling. A lot more than the usual contingent one sees pedalling around the paths of a Sunday.

well, obviously we don't want sunburns, but a bit of sun is good. vitamin d deficiency is a real problem - although other countries seem to take it more seriously.

there was a study recently that showed scottish youth seriously deficient, but have seen no response rom public health authorities here.

@ememka - likewise I never said I was unwilling to ride at night. I said I was unwillingly to ride in a group at night going deliberately slow with the objective of slowing up traffic. I also amn't up for riding in a mixed ability group in such circumstances. No thanks. I said I'd happily ride at night at a faster pace and with a different attitude to sharing the road with other users.
