Haven't done the Fringe this year, though kids and Mrs crowriver have seen a few things. John Hegley apparently very good.

I have seen some official Festival stuff though. Highlight would be Waiting For Godot at the Lyceum. Also saw some contemporary dance at Festival Theatre, and a gig by Anna Meredith at Leith Theatre. Dance and music good to an international standard etc. but I found it all a bit underwhelming overall. Maybe I have super high expectations, am a bit picky or maybe this year's programme just lacking something?

Still The Prisoner to go so will reserve overall judgement until then.

Much controversy over DF Concerts' black wall around West Princes Street. It is ridiculous they've been allowed to get away with this. First encountered while walking on Princes Street a fortnight ago, and still there despite council's efforts to find another solution. Think this promoter (previously responsible for T In The Park debacle) should not be allowed back in the gardens and concerts scaled down. Rumours of a mooted move to Leith Links next year, but that just moves the problem to a residential area. Maybe we have reached Peak Festival?

We were audibly assaulted by a bunch of headphone wearing flash mob like singers, apparently a silent disco but there was hee-haw silent about this bunch belting out the "raining men" song beside the bus we were stuck on at the lights beside the Wash bar.
The real cringe was the dancing with eyes shut and the getting noticeably quieter when they hit the verses nobody knew the words to and louder again at the chorus. Sorry if you have mobiles you can look up the lyrics or all share a karaoke app. Just don't keep stopping in random places and annoying people who don't have your headphones on.

Maybe we could trick some councilors and council officials to come to the show. Then lock the exit...

@SRD I thought this was going to be a thread about shows to go see. not jumpsuit clad women destroying infra (sounds like a superhero movie filming?)

This is a fringest of the fringe performance. Random self-selecting cycling people get up and testify about what they have observed in the InfraStruckture. £5 on the door.

Re Beggar's Opera. Agree. Performances and staging good, book bad.

"Coming to EdFringe 2019, The Mighty Gembo presents Leotards and Lamp Posts. Our cities are under attack from the cast of Fame. They've already destroyed our pavements with their energetic footwork and yarnbombed our railings. Can a team of academics save the day?"

I think Six is all sold out, so will have to enjoy it vicariously by SRD's reviews. I'm going to have a Fringe day in town this week and see some theatre shows and some music. I might even take the bus for a change as I always overheat riding home.

Good mix of acrobatics, clowning, slap-stick and "slow motion" effects (interesting facial expressions). Suitable for kids.

Six the musical is worth seeing. very loud. very fun. but not lacking in political./social critique.

Circus Abyssinia also very good fun.

Don't bother with The Beggar's Opera. it's okay, but drags and the updating feels forced. the dancing/staging is the best part of it.

Put this under Altercation, but can cross reference to the Festival.

I'm in a bus going up The Mound.
Long blaring horn from the bus driver. Simultaneously shouting from a parallel cyclist. Uniting against a pair of tourists standing in the bike lane taking photies.

I'm in a bus going down the Mound. At the corner with the bike railings where the street is a couple of feet below the pavement a couple of tourists were walking, essentially caging themselves between buses and railings, with a good chance of blocking a cyclist.

One cyclist did pass a few seconds later, having evidently dodged them.
