<title>Smudge on "What will be the dominant bicycle type of the next decade?"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;I’ve been looking at the bicycles I see as I travel about and, excepting the desperately fashionable on fixies and faux fixies I’m seeing fewer and fewer mountain bikes, I’m also starting to see many more practical bikes (eg, fitted with full mudguards, lights, bell etc.).&#60;br /&#62;
This led me to wonder… the eighties and nineties were the era of the mountain bike, as people realise a bicycle is useful/fun but a mountain bike is somewhat compromised away from the mountains, the 2000-2010’s (don’t know a snappy abbreviation!) seem to have become the era of the hybrid (or often the roadified/commuting prepared mountain bike).&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;So will the next decade be the era of the tourer style bike? (my definition: a bike without suspension with drop bars and mudguards and at least one rack which will take panniers, middle sized road tyres and a wide range of gearing. Eg. Ridgeback Panorama or a kitted ‘cross bike doubtless open to debate though!)&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Or will there be a different craze/fashion…? Maybe folders as bikes become more popular and space more restricted?&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;As exam papers used to say, “discuss” ;-)

<title>Bhachgen on "Folding Bike (bad?) Advice Needed"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;Looking for some advice on folders.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Looks like I am about to take the big step from working in financial services for semi-decent-ish money to becoming a bikeability trainer for semi-awful money but a great big wedge of job satisfaction.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Don't want to have to buy a car/van to get me around, but some of the &#34;patch&#34; I will be covering is a bit far away for a full cycle commute.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Unfortunately the trains down here (Lancs/Greater Manchester/Merseyside) are jam-packed and not very cycle friendly even when half-empty (Scotrail is like some kind of amazing cycletopia railway in comparison but it's the usual story of only appreciating things when you no longer have them).&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;So a folder looks like the best solution for those days when I have further to travel than I fancy doing on my cross bike. Brompton was the first name that came to mind, but they are pretty pricey (remember that paycut I mentioned?) and I have read some mixed reviews. Also considering part of the price premium is justified by the fact it's British designed/built they don't have the best reputation for how they treat their staff. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;A couple of places seem to be doing Dahons at a good price just now, in particular the &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/p/5118/dahon-mu-p8-folding-bike-202011-sale&#34;&#62;Mu P8&#60;/a&#62; which looks decent enough.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I think EBC used to do a &#34;Revolution&#34; folder that looked good value but looks like they have stopped selling it.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I'm sure some of the CCE community have some experience with folders so please hit me with the combined total of your knowledge and wisdom!
