http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/ CityCyclingEdinburgh Forum » Tag: fountainpark - Recent Topics en Tue, 19 May 2026 15:07:05 +0000 http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=17696#post-248749 Thu, 04 May 2017 14:46:08 +0000 qwerty 248749@http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/ <p>The other half and I were locking our bikes up at Ashley Terrace a few weeks ago when we spotted what looked like a lovely wide, flat, well-maintained cycle path neither of us knew about (it crossed &amp; went underneath Ashley Terrace opposite the hair &amp; beauty shops).</p> <p>Surprised that neither of us knew about it, I've checked it out on Google Maps and it's not a cycle path at all.. probably a disused railway track.</p> <p>It's the bit that runs from Slateford (it seems to start at the back of The Van Man near Meggetgate at the back of the Slateford train station) all the way up to to Harrison Gardens/Park.</p> <p>Seems like a bit of a missed cycling infra opportunity - does anyone know if anyone's ever tried to link it up/do something with it?</p> <p>All it would take is a way onto the path at Slateford station and you'd have a clear cycling/ped path from there, cutting out all the main roads, into the city centre until Fountainpark! I know that's easier said than done because there's the small matter of the train tracks needing to be crossed... but it seems like such a wasted opportunity to have a closed path which is so direct/flat/well surfaced!</p> <p>Thoughts? </p> http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=17685#post-248498 Tue, 02 May 2017 10:24:14 +0000 qwerty 248498@http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/ <p>Hi,</p> <p>Long-time reader, new poster.<br /> I regularly commute into the city centre by bike and there are a couple of chunks of my commute which are along fairly cruddy surfaces - specifically, surfaces that were once fine but have been made much worse in the last year due to construction works/etc in the area.</p> <p>Two examples:</p> <p>The <strong>Meggetland View path going from Slateford Train Station</strong> - worsening, very uneven ped/cycling shared surfaces with lots of crap on there from the building work on the sports complex</p> <p><strong>Travelling Westbound at Fountainpark</strong> (what's with the uneven/unpainted "cycling lane" which just stops into a kind of ramp thing, and forces a pointed merge with cars outside of Kwik Fit?!).</p> <p>Both of these surfaces are getting a lot worse over time and (judging by the construction works) there isn't going to be a decent road surface put back in place any time soon.</p> <p>I've just submitted the Edinburgh Council 'report a problem' form but is there anything else the forum folk here could recommend? </p>
