Kaputnik, yes I think they could. I asked about replacing a broken zip on a rucksack and they said they could as long as they could turn the item inside out.

I got my Goretex jacket back from them today. They have done a fantastic job of re-taping all the seams in the hood and shoulders. Cost £20. Highly recommended ++++ (as they say on ebay)

Picked up my jacket from SMG. It's a Gore Path XCR and it cost a bomb a few years ago, so I was keen to make it last as long as possible.

First off, the machinist had it all done in just over a week, which was three times quicker than I expected. Second, the workmanship is brilliant. She replaced all the Velcro on the cuffs because it was worn out; she got rid of the silly little tabs of Velcro on the storm flap because they were worn out, and replaced them with a single continuous length for better proofing; on the zip she replaced the slider which was also worn out; and best of all, she removed the internal rear pocket that you could fold the jacket into to carry it like a bumbag, and sewed the flap shut. Because of riding a recumbent, that pocket and its chunky zip have been a total pain in the kidneys for five or six years. It's almost magical the way the mods have been done because you really can't tell. She also gave me a row for not washing my jacket often enough. :)

Totally recommend them if you have a spill or need some modifications done.

<strike>Anyone got a square of 'Paprika' red Gore/polyamide I could use to repair my beloved Jeantex cycle jacket? Put a biggish hole in the shoulder when I came off this morning. Not just a tear, the tarmac scraped a ragged hole bigger than a 50p in the 'T3000' fabric.</strike>

EDIT - Forget it, just re-inspected the damage and it's a big tear, a tiny tear and a loose seam. Some thread and waterproof tape behind should sort it. If I need extra T3000 I've got some inside the pockets that can be scavenged...

Lots of bike gear sales on right now<strike>, so could just get something else</strike>. Can't find Jeantex waterproofs in the UK now though. :-(

I often repair cycle shorts / longs etc. In-fact, my favourite pair of longs are more than 15 years old, and have been stitched back together countless times, they are really comfy, and really warm!

Is it them to whom Tiso send things? If so they made a nice job of two of my rucksacks in 2008 and 2011 and will shortly be getting a colleague's loaned macpacbackpack infant-lugger which the boy's habitual rightward-slumping broke.

Is this the one in Mussleburgh? They also repair tents and rucksacs. I found out about them through the macpac website years ago.

I wonder if they do tape repairs. I have an old pair of waterproof trousers whose tapes are starting to come appart, and might contact them about retaping seams.

Perhaps I'm the last person in the world to know about this, but if you have a good cycle jacket, or a bag or rucksack perhaps, that has been damaged or is wearing out, it's possible to have it mended.

Scottish Mountain Gear is based in Unit 19 of Fisherrow Industrial Estate, and is the 'official' partner of Gore Bike Wear. For example, their machinists can replace zips and pockets and velcro, and repair seams and tears, and at pretty reasonable prices.

I visited them the other day, and they now have my well-used Goretex jacket for some repairs and recumbent-orientated modifications. I'll report back here once it's ready.
