If it's vintage enough to have non-standard sizing, then you might have some headaches big enough to make buying a new frame a cheaper option. </p> <p>From my experience of a Cannondale MTB I inherited(frame 1989, most moving parts from 1995-9), the offroad gnarly people have gone through many more weird and wonderful technologies than roadies, let alone the infamously conservative tourers. The folding of the bike is easy and once the handlebars are in place it almost unfolds itself! The front wheel flips out of the fork and sits against the rear (which is flipped under the bike). When undfolding it locks in to the fork with a solid clunk and I've had no issues with it... yet! There is a little play in the handlebars but I'm not sure if that's wear and tear or a design flaw. When I get paid I'm going to put the thing in for a full service as I haven't a clue about folders.
