Based on the tracks, someone (I assume CEC) had driven what appears to have been a mini tractor along the path before 10am today.

However other than a very short stretch of around 30m there was no evidence of any grit having been dropped.

I'm not personally bothered about the lack of grit as I need spikes for other parts of my route anyway but if they are not gritting it why are they using it as a road?

Has anyone cycled the coastal route through Dalmeny Estate recently ? Acccording to the John Muir Way website the "Dalmeny diversion" is no longer there - I was just wondering if that was true.

Yesterday, the snow was slowly clearing but with the forecast weather I fear there will still be snow and ice on the path towards the end of the month.

There was also a large pile of turf and mud at the Brig end of the path. Assuming it's still there today I'm about to tweet about it. Hopefully Councillor Work will do his magic.

A90 path still an abject mess at 16:20

can't tell if anyone's been there for token maintenance but there is a small channel you can get through without dismounting

if that's their effort, its very poor

as DaveC points out, those high mounds of snow are just going to melt and refreeze over the path

and this is not a path that gets salted or gritted

there's just no thought put into the requirements of the job

car bumper still there as well, right across the path, a classic debris

what are we to do, just throw it over the wall into the estate?

wouldn't be the first time that it ended up being the only option

Yes I did chat to a guy fixing his puncture on the path. I must have been fortunate.

I was eyeing up the field to the north and wondering if it might have been quicker to jump the wall and cycle up the dirt/snow boundary! :)

The officer I spoke to suggested that the trunk designation starts half way down the slip roads to the north of the bridge rather than 50m below the bridge.

I don't know if there has been a further update but my understanding of the history is that that prior to Amey taking it over from FETA there was no trunk road on the A90 before it became the M90 at Ferrytoll junction, although both the M90 spur and M90 in Fife were of course trunk roads as are all motorways. When Amey took it over the trunk road seems to have been extended part way down the "Dalmeny Spur" as per this document:
http://www.transport.gov.scot/system/files/documents/tsc-basic-pages/Road/ListofTrunkRoads.pdf

Although looking at the references given it's only about 1Km past the M90 spur. Roughly as far as the bridge works extend which would make sense.

I wonder if the A90 was trunk all the way into Edinburgh if we would still be fighting for the path to be upgraded. TS aren't know for there facilitation of transport which does involve tax revenue per mile.

I think the A90 is largely not a trunk road, which was part of why getting funding for the improvement of the cycle path was so difficult, I think. I too am surprised however that it somehow is a trunk road for a while and then suddenly stops being so.

What would happen if it just wasn't rebuilt?

I stopped to chat to a couple of perplexed looking bobbies on the Burnshot slip road today. They had dispatched themselves to follow up complaints about bus lane abuse, without having realised that the flyover was shut and no-one was abusing any bus lanes.

The A90 was also unusually quiet so the usual queue jumpers were even present. Other than one busy 5 minute spell they said they had seen no cars in over half an hour. I assured them that I hadn't seen any queues longer than 10 cars in teh time the bridge had been shut and they pretty much decided to move onto their next job. Ah well at least they were trying.

The update they had on the bridge was that it misses being a trunk road by about 50m (I thought it was much more) and so Transport Scotland are forcing the Council to foot the entire repair bill. If it needs replaced it will run to millions which along with North Bridge could take a significant chunk of the transport budget.

Inspired by Hankchief and helpers, I went to clear some of the leaves off the footway outside Gillespie's Primary. The route is used by 100s if not 1000s of school kids everyday. I'd already raised a 'ticket' last year with the council to get it cleared, but they had done nothing.

Micro edd1e_h helped out, all for an oatcake & a glass of water. We got a few complements and one lady said she normally wrote to her councillors about it each year, but this year she hadn't got round to it - she said she would do it now though...

It's much worse than it looks in the first picture - you can see by the number of leaves now in the road.

Any update on the section between the golf courses at Barnton? That was covered with leaves when I went through the weekend before last.
I also tweeted that a bit of the NEPN near Silverknowes needs clearing.

Failing in my cak handed attempt to find the Weather Thread, ...

Cold this morning on the ride along the A90 etal. The Surface looked like it was trying to freeze but not quite succeeding.

Still looks like the resident street sweepers have moved to the section from A90 dual carragway up to the old Main Street of Dalmeny, thanks!

@acsimpson. Yeah, a roadsweeper lorry was being set up on the path around 0800 on Monday or Tuesday I think. We had to navigate around it.

It looks like someone has been along the path with a mechanical sweeper in the last couple of days. I only noticed as I approached Dalmeny but that climb is certainly clear of it's piles of leaves. The northern slip off the A90 was so full of people enjoying sitting by themselves in their cars that I didn't notice if that stretch was clear but assume it is too.
