Driver did stop but did not give details, said would come back but didn't. But did make herself known to polis later.

Tricky in circumstances as natural reaction is to jump up and be OK, also as have adrenaline pumping at the time which then recedes later and you notice your injuries creeping in.

But my good pal at work who was knocked off in chambers street insists you should stay down and phone for an ambulance whilst also securing people as witnesses. Polis good at this of course. Then you should get Brenda at cycle law firm to act on your behalf.

"If an accident takes place, and either damage or personal injury is caused, then the driver of the vehicle at the time is required to stop at the scene of the accident and hand over their details and their insurance policy number to others present who may wish to have that information. Failing to stop at the scene of an accident is an offence under Section 170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

There is a further obligation (even if you do stop and provide your details) to report any accident that results in injury or damage to a Police Station as soon as reasonably practicable and in any case within a maximum of 24 hours. Failing to report an accident is again another offence under section 170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988."

Would appear to be an open & shut case under the 1st clause and a charge (hopefully not a caution) should follow, but who knows with Police Glasgow?

I thought you were at the very least obliged to exchange details before leaving the site of an incident. Although if there is injury or damage to property you have to stay until the emergency services have arrived.

Personally preference doesn't really come into it if you have just crashed into someone and broken their arm.

@Dave I think you're right, although it's surely not good form to say to an injured party that you're coming back, then not...

I read somewhere that people may prefer to report themselves at the police station rather than hang around in the heat of a crash site. I'm not sure legally what the situation is (does 24 hours to report still apply if you have just had to sweep someone off the bonnet?)

I'm sorry to hear this - I hope your boss recovers ok both physically and mentally. Hope the Police can track the driver down without too many problems. I agree with WC one to go to the papers with if possible - this sort of behaviour needs to be understood and seen to be unacceptable and having serious legal consequences.

Might be one (with the police's approval) to take to the Evening News if no-one comes forward or is found. Can't stand hearing about people who have that little respect for other people. I do hope she's stewing over what happened, but honestly, you've just hit someone with your car, the least important thing in the whole situation is your kids being late for school.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the police can trace the driver. I assume her car will be missing some paintwork and that both her leaving the scene of an accident and driving dangerously will be taken seriously.

Yesterday morning - 8:25ish at the roundabout where Craigleith Road meets Crew Road South. My boss was cycling down Orchard Road and joined the roundabout, he was heading right towards Comley Bank Road. As he passed the exit from Crew Road South a Black/Grey Mini (possibly a clubman) drove from Crew Road South onto the roundabout taking him out in the process. The front of the car caught his front wheel sending him over the bonnet of the car and onto the road. He managed to get up and head for the pavement. The female driver pulled over, got out of the car and went over to asked if he was OK then said that she had to take her kids to school promising to come back, but didn't. The police are involved looking for the driver. The only information I have about the female driver is that she sounded posh and had kids in the car (2 girls). He has a badly broken wrist and will require surgery over the weekend. I spoke to him this morning and he's a lot of pain, but on a positive, he did say that he wouldn't be frightened to get back on bike again once recovered.

I really hope the police can trace the driver.
