Hey I'm Matt,

I’m looking to recruit research participants for our work understanding cyclists needs and improving bike insurance, it's a short chat and a review of some websites I've been working on. I'm a researcher in the bike industry.

I’m looking to talk to keen cyclists on research calls with myself. These calls are usually ~45 minutes and reimbursement is a £35 voucher for their time. Only requirement is that you are a UK based cyclist and ride a bike worth >£300.

If your interested you can book yourself in on a call with this link - https://calendly.com/talktomatthewcarter/utest

If you have any questions please let me know!

Kind regards,
Matthew

As bike theft in Edinburgh reaches apocalyptic levels, vast flocks of ravens circle overhead. Meanwhile my home insurance needs renewed.

Turns out I only put one of my bikes on it last year, oops. I was sure I'd added the Genesis too.

Adding bikes worth over £500 as individual high value items is doing horrible things to my premium (plus apparently I might be expected to show receipts for upgraded components - uh. That will be a problem given how long I've had some of those...) So, is it worth getting separate insurance just for the bikes (which would also give me third party in case a motorist tries to sue me for scratching their paintwork with my crumpled body / I mow down a terrier)? Any recommendations?

I guess the Question of if any Insurance is worth it or not is a very personal Judgement call. However I was flabbergasted to discover that Bike insurance is more expensive than my car insurance!

I guess the greatest risk is theft. But how much Bike theft is going on in Edinburgh right now?

Most common place my Bike is left:
It Spends most of the time inside my house, Hanging on the wall in my utility!
Inside my office.
Tied up around the city centre for short periods.
However, it may soon be tied up all day at Napier Sighthill and at the Royal Infirmary!

I use a double litelok.

Any thoughts?

Sorry if there's something about this I just haven't found, maybe someone could point me to a post/discussion.

Basically up until now I've thought insurance was just in case your bike got stolen. Mine is about twenty years old and doesn't seem worth insuring. However, having been cycling a bit more frequently, reading this forum etc i realise that insurance could also be something you might need if you were in an accident. Is this right? Should cyclists generally get insurance to cover potential legal costs etc or do most just do without?

We have removed bikes from our home contents cover, after a premium hike, after a few minor claims, inlusding one cycle theft. I took out cover with Total Cycle Assist l;ast year, but when I renewed recently, I found I actually have no cover against theft, but instead Accident Cover (so much for drivers screaming about no insurance eh?). Anyway I want to cover my family's cycles against theft at home and out on the road/street.

Who do you use, and why? Does CTC membership provide good cover? I read a Herald article from another thread which said Endsleigh specialise in Student Cycle Theft Insurance cover.

Thanks,

Dave C
Addrss withheld, until I ghet cover ;o)
