And again, around 10 tonight - very low, just over the huge moon. Another pass in about an hour.

Was overhead just after 11 tonight. Nice to finally see it.

Have been following @virtualastro on twitter - account tweets at 30 min, 10 min etc before a visible pass.

Phone told me to look for it… but I was busy cycling home along the Edinburgh Rd and facing east.

Taxi driver in Killermont St tried to tell me off by muttering "Red means stop" as I stopped in an ASZ. He had his front wheels in the ASZ so I told him off instead.

Actually, Google may trumpet about Google Earth a lot, but not so much about Sky Map.

Point your device up to the sky and it will show you where everything is in front of your eyes. Simple but effective. There's something very humbling about standing outside on a cold clear night and just staring into the night sky till you lose track of time.

My main space interest was (and is) in the STS or Space Shuttle. As a kid, I wrote to NASA for information, Expecing maybe a letter at most, but a few days later I received a large padded envelope filled with all sorts of sturdy booklets and leaflets, and not just aimed at children. Very impressed. Still have them to this day.

Nice app @Focus. Spent a happy minute spinning round on the office chair testing the virtual compass. It's clearly magic.

And of course I got a close-up of the Dragon cargo ship while I was at it:

I was watching, and was quite surprised by how fast the ISS was moving. Then it gradually headed out of sight:

The Dragon cargo ship will follow the same trajectory at 21.48 and might be visible.

I have to admit I don't quite understand how things in orbit can follow the same path and catch up with each other but these things manage to dock so it must work.

This week's Sky at Night had a nice piece on Mars. The new lady is suitable mad. I'd have liked Brian May to get the gig but he's busy with the badgers.

EDIT. Bums. Got so busy getting boys to bed I missed the second one.

So it's not just me then. It will be a wee bit darker in Edinburgh so I suppose you will get a better view. Reasonably little cloud at the moment. Last night I couldn't even see the moon at the second pass of the ISS.

It's possible that nobody else likes to see the ISS. I like to jump out the front door and watch it pass overhead.

This app is free and lets you know when it's passing by.

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/iss-spotter/id523486350?mt=8

This evening you can see the supply ship take off on a web page, see the ISS for real and then possibly see the cargo ship follow the ISS. http://www.spacex.com
