Well on my ride in today with baldcyclist I came in from haymarket and cut down to Princes Street. I see there is a large 'Cyclists Dismount' sign on the emergency lane left on Princes Street (also for deliveries). who's bright idea was that? The only traffic free, pothole free, quiet route through 'town' is closed toc cyclists. I don't mind admitting I cycled the length to St Andrew Sq, with wide eyes looking out for LBP's finest, with the recent thread mentioning fines in mind... I saw a number of cyclists so perhaps the police have not patrolled it or are turning a blind eye. I'm all for shared use so long as cyclist are mindfull of blind pedestrians stepping out with out looking over their shoulder, but a complete ban is silly considering how quiet the route is even around lunch time when I took a walk to the west end to meet tha family last week.

I think if questions are allowed at the up and coming 'Evening lecture - Transport financing' on 8th November, and might write to my local MSP (friend) & cc Malcolm Chisholm, about this.

We cycle out from Dalgety Bay on Sunday to Linlithgow aiming to see some of the Kingscavil riding. We arrived too early I think as my 'guide' leading didn't stop at the foot of the hill. We went on to Linlithgow and up to Cairnpapple before returning to Linlithgow and the Strawberry Tea room. Note - Beecraig cafe was shut when we got there ~11am Sunday. After that we headed back along our outward route with a slight detour up through Bridgend to Wester Ociltree farm but I think the ride had ended at that point ~11.45am, so we headed back along the ridge road to Threemiletown and back via Kirkliston South Queensferry. I had no idea how far we had ridden but hopped to go no further than ~40miles. My mate of course now used to doing 150 - 200km Audax's took me 45miles. No wonder I was begining to flag as I climbed out of Kirkliston.

I ate two large Bacon butties and two cups of tea at Linlithgow but still started to flag on climbs from Kirkliston on the return journey. Seems I'm still struggling to get enough food in me for (what I term) longer journeys.

Here is our route:
