from the BBC

Schoolboy breaks arm in Edinburgh hit-and-run

A 12-year-old schoolboy had his arm broken when he was struck by a car in a hit-and-run in Edinburgh.

The boy was hit as he crossed Marchmont Road, near the junction with Thirlestane Road, between 08:35 and 08:45 on Wednesday.

After initially slowing down, the car then drove away from the scene.

The boy immediately got to his feet, but later discovered he had broken his left arm. Lothian and Borders Police appealed for witnesses.

The car was described as being small and green.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "The young boy suffered a painful injury to his arm and anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police immediately.

"We would similarly urge the driver of the car to get in touch as soon as possible.

"There is a chance they may not have realised the severity of the collision and it is vitally important they make contact with us to explain the circumstances surrounding this incident."

What kind of sick and twisted individual knocks a child down and then drives off? I mean cyclists I can understand - we're "fair game" apparently. But a child?

Is Marchmont Road on or off the 20mph zone?
