As a midlothian resident I had written to councillors to ask why there shouldn't be decent cycle routes that follow the A701 (or ish) corridor (a major route in to Edinburgh). It's a horrible route, especially through Straiton. Most of the way the road is pretty wide, and even the single carriageway sections have a hashed middle section, so plenty of room for dedicated bike space. So good to know there is an organisation in midlothian for this sort of thing. I'm sure many on this forum have suggested reinstating them as cycle ways. I think it would be a real game changer if some of the new SG money over the next few years could be allocated to reviving as many of these routes as cycle ways as possible. They would obviously be great leisure routes but fantastic utility routes too, between towns.
