The long awaited parking restrictions on Sunday are here, but only in the afternoon...

Amongst the changes are some significant increases in parking on certain streets from single/double yellows to shared use bays. Noticed some big jumps near me on Grove Street and Gilmore Place.

Bemusingly, they’re also proposing to increase parking on streets that have planned cycle routes (which will reduce parking) - sounds like a sure fire way to get people annoyed. e.g. they’re significantly increasing parking on the north side of St Andrew Square that will be removed by CCWEL.

If anything, some of the parking increases would be handy to ‘hold back’ per say and deliver them with an Active Travel scheme to make it more appealing to NIMBYs.

It's the parking! Those 2+ cars per family needs space. Also Netflix series aren't going to be watched themselves.

I'm going to a conference! Where's a good place near the conference centre to lock up my bike? Any recommendations?

I went there yesterday and found four wee rack-ettes out the front of the building; a couple of lamposts across the road; some cyclist-crusher barrier fencing just down the hill; and a bit further away there's Festival Square but there doesn't seem to be anywhere more secure or reassuring.

The EICC and conference sites are no help sadly ("For further advice on alternative modes of transport http://www.sestran.gov.uk").

Any more ideas please? Or is that the lot?

We're pleased to announce we've managed to get some extra funding to expand cycling parking facilities in Leith - should be installed by the end of the financial year.

More info here:

EEN article:Bad Edinburgh parking shamed on website

It's mainly interesting because it continually refers to 'road users, pedestrians and cyclists' as if somehow cyclists aren't road users.

DON'T READ THE COMMENTS! The first one manages to complain about cycling on the pavement in an article that's about people parking in stupid places.

Its an audio thing but basically there are no traffic wardens in Aberystwyth at the moment. The predictable chaos has happened to the town and shadenfreude has happened to me.
