Pedal on Parliament Goes Local in 2019

As you might know, PoP 2019 is looking a bit different - new year, new tactics. This year the plan is to shake things up a bit and to put the pressure on Local Authorities- including Edinburgh - to deliver.

We can't do do this without you.

Are you, or could you become, an enthusiastic instigator or invaluable participant? Now is a great chance to find out.

Meeting Thursday 31st January at 18:30 in Sofi's Southside (used to be Southside Social) on Buccleuch Street. Just bring yourself, your ideas and your enthusiasm.

Can't make it? Keep an eye on this topic / the PoP facebook page / twitter acount - this is just a kick off meeting, there will be more opportunities to meet up / get involved.

I'm sure you are all aware of POP and the 25th April is in your diary already but just in case here's a recap.

The Manifesto:

Making Scotland a cycle-friendly nation

1) Proper funding for cycling.
2) Design cycling into Scotland’s roads.
3) Safer speeds where people live, work and play
4) Integrate cycling into local transport strategies
5) Sensible road traffic law and enforcement
6) Reduce the risk of HGVs to cyclists and pedestrians
7) A strategic and joined-up programme of road user training
8) Solid research on cycling to support policy-making

Please join us on 25th April to continue to pressurise our politicians to support the manifesto.

Following on from Katie Cycles to School, I strapped cameras to my 14 year old daughter, wished her luck and shoved her into the traffic maelstrom.

Her route takes in the full gamut possible: 20mph local estate, bus lanes, "family network" back streets, segregated
cycle tracks, shared paths, and on road cycle lanes (Quality Bicycle Corridor).

Over three days, we captured some normal footage, including two instances of drivers pulling out from side streets without regard for the little-un (all 5'6" of her).

Unfortunately, whilst this might be a great follow-up for the PoP video, I don't really have the necessary video editing or YouTube experience to capitalise on it.

Would any CCE folk care to lend their expertise? It's about 3x 10 mile trips, so about 3 hours of footage, hence I appreciate that this could take many hours (30?) to put into an effective format.

Robert

No video yet, but both STV and BBC have PoP stories up.

Both of them talk of "hundreds" of cyclists. We now know that "thousands" would have been more accurate, so I assume that these stories were written before the event. I hope they'll be corrected.
