I'd always known that there was a cycle route near there, but I could never seem to find it. Turns out I just couldn't recognise it as a cycle path.

I'd support the effort to try to get more to try cycling bewteen Portobello and Leith

Ditto the effort but not the method. It might sink in at the council that if pinchpoints like that 40m stretch in particular are dealt with then it opens up all the investment in the rest of the path (which is very good, with exception of crossing at Seafield Street) and will get many more people using it.

Also, putting signs up suggesting you use a path, in the middle of the path itself, seem wasted effort. You aren't going to be able to read them from a car. If they really must put up signs they would be better at the extreme ends.

"If its wide enough for one slim person to walk down it is wide enough to be a two-way shared use path"

"that path looks awfully narrow to be shared use..."

It's pretty narrow for bikes or peds only!

Hadn't realised until k mentioned that there is hatching in the road - no doubt for 'road safety' reasons.

'Fortunately' that particular bit of pavement doesn't have many peds.

I believe CEC is looking at what can be done with the barrier/chevrons to reduce 'restriction' on bridge - don't suppose that includes pavement widening...

As has been mentioned here before doesn't do 'cyclists' any favours if improvements for them/us is by disadvantaging pedestrians.

SpaceForPeople

Perhaps the banners are a bit premature.

or put in a dropped kerb so that you can join the cycle path from the road.

Anyone heard of it? I assume council found it more amusing or just plain easier to create a series of gaudy pink banners, rather than trying to do anything about the narrowed path across the bridge here or the surface between the bridge and the esplanace.
