Thanks Rosie, we did discuss this film a while back it crams a lot in. My favourite is the 10 year old girl in 1930 who cycled 100 miles from Huddersfield to Rhyll with her dad. Stayed the night then cycled back the next day. Her pals didn’t believe her, she said - You can ask my dad

Really good documentary of the history of the Raleigh company, from its earliest days to the present.

There are some champion folk on this, including a bloke in tweeds riding one of the first bikes; a rockabilly former factory worker with the most astonishing sideburns; and the delightful Eileen something, a tiny woman who broke the record for John O'Groats to Lands End.

Also terrific footage of early bikes, advertisements and the various kinds of cycles.

Maybe I should try it from the other end... put the selector in 1st and tighten the hub all the way... then see if there's a difference between 3rrd and 4th. But I get the feeling that the hub will be in 4th when the selector is in 3rd.
I'll try it for the way home today.

Thanks for the advice!

I'll have a play with the hub, but it doesn't seem to have the same range of movement as the selector...

If I put selector in 4th, allow hub to take the chain in, then tighten the slack, I can't actually pull the selector into 1st, only to 2nd. This seems to match the gears OK.

Maybe the hub isn't pulling into 4th properly? Or maybe semothing else, I don't know! The top gear I'm getting certainly feels like 4th. If anything I feels like there should be another lower gear, but there's no way the hub is giving me one!

Welcome

"Have only managed to get 3 speeds from the hub so far"

4 speeds are notorious for slipping in bottom gear.

Don't lose indicator rod - hard to find! If toggle chain breaks get ready to re-rivet.

I bought it! Woohoo! It's a really nice ride and I've not even done any work on it. I'm only 5'8" but actually pretty comfy bike.

Dynamo and both lights work, but there's a loose connection somewhere cos they only work intermittently. Originals though.

Have only managed to get 3 speeds from the hub so far... need to fiddle I guess.

I keep yous all posted how I get on. Rode it to work today... great!

@SRD don't tell him how much the other retrobike hipsters will envy him! It would be reasonably straightforward to convert to a flatter bar (moustache would look awesome) if he didn't want to old D-loop drops, which don't have a reputation for extreme comfort.
