The police took the incident seriously, interviewing all three of us and the driver. The driver had a different story than we, although we never heard the details. Ultimately, the driver was hit with a negligent driving penalty - it typically carries a £400+ fine, I believe. </p> <p>Incidentally, we learned that, subsequent to the complaint, the driver had loaned the car to a friend, who, late at night, had crashed and totalled the (nearly new) car.
