Saw on my way past this morning that signs have gone up along Whitehouse Loan indicating that roadworks will be lasting for 6 weeks. Sorry, but couldn't see when they would be starting as I was pulling the trailer at the time and was keeping up momentum.

Maybe this is finally a repair to the God awful road surface all along this stretch?

Yes, Broughton Road is being dug up yet again and this time it is even more of a cyclist trap than it was before.

There is no traffic light at Logie Green so drivers are just pulling out when they can and obviously that means pulling out in front of cyclists who aren't real traffic anyway. I saw a woman almost get taken out by a tosser in a huge People Killer this morning after someone on the other side of the road stopped to let them out. Obviously neither driver considered the cyclist as being someone who perhaps shouldn't be run over

The street known variously as Causewayside, Ratcliffe Terrace and Mayfield Road is full of roadworks, especially at the National Library of Scotland crossroads with Grange Road. A lot of the roadworks involve the road being narrowed until it's just about wide enough for a car or a bus. There's no provision here for cyclists, that would be daft as this is only the city's number one quality cycle corridor, nothing important then.
What I'm trying to say is AVOID this road, AVOID AVOID AVOID; if you cower at the side of the road you'll be squashed and terrified, and if you "man up" and "take your space" and all the rest of it you'll gather a queue of angry evolutionary throwbacks behind you, shouting helpful comments such as "cking road!".

It's back to the slow quiet roads of the Grange for me, rain or no rain.

From Dave Hembrow's blog:

http://hembrow.blogspot.com/2010/02/more-temporary-bridges-for-cyclists.html

He's a British cyclist now living in the Netherlands.

His first comment, "If people are put off cycling, even temporarily, they may not return" is pretty much what I was saying about the iced up Innocent Path!
