Mcairney, a "friend" of mine can vouch for M&S's ability to supply a fine fitting shirt pre 9AM. However he can also vouch for his co-workers ability to point out the blatantly obviously new shirt he was then wearing.

Primark also opens at 8 and might be a shorter walk but not somewhere said "friend" would choose to shop.

There used to be a place in lower Morrison Steet called the Shirt Shop which sold......shirts. Those in the know saw the, perhaps unintended, subtlety behind the Yamaha trials bike in the window.

I may or may not have ended up in the Gyle buying a t-shirt this morning having discovered that like @Fatboysam's friend I too had failed to pack a shirt this morning.

Capital Mens' would also iron the shirt free of charge, so it was a bit less obvious that that was where you'd sourced your shirt from that morning!

@IWRATS, Capital Men's - here is the story (Might work written down or might be spoken word only)

Fred Cotton Senior took his son Fred Cotton Junior to Capital Men-swear to buy him a suit for his 18th. Father and son were builders known collectively as the Cotton Freds (quite subtle that I think for builders)

Bothe were five foot tall and five foot wide. THey liked to have five pints after work before tea.

Fred Senior asks the tailor I will call him Mr Clocherty (From Tutti Frutti) Eh, jist come for tae ask - do you have a suit to fit the boy? Mr Clocherty replied - If we do someone is getting the sack

Capital Mens' Outfitters in Dundas Street used to do a roaring trade in pre-nine o'clock shirt and tie special combo back in the days of RBS and Standard and Scottish Life dress codes.

Both long gone and not missed much neither.

Only an idiot would forget their shirt, so naturally I'm asking for a friend...ahem.

<strike>I</strike> said friend has managed to borrow one and is glad the wind has died down today as he may have been blown away otherwise. A lunchtime shopping spree may be in order where one shirt will remain in the office permanently for just such occasions.

Thanks for your suggestions, however, which I will pass to said friend just in case this event reoccurs.

Too late now but when I forgot my shirt I would go to Asda at Chesser, which would still probably be the closest supermarket open before 9 selling shirts.

Hi polyester content in those shirts.

Not saying you have forgotten your shirt Fatboysam, just saying I have forgotten my shirt before.

Or maybe actually the Murrayfield Sainsbury, higher cotton content there. I used to buy shorts with side pockets from there but my wife has objected to them so I buy slightly dearer shorts now.

Hypothetically speaking, does anyone know where it might be possible to purchase a shirt near the West End, sometime before 9am?
