No reply yet from the coo's, but one of the stair users came past today and said we had to have a survey done by the fire service to tell us where to put them or the insurance is invalid, which sounds kinda likely. So they are getting that bit done, Im sourcing the materials. storage HO!

Cool! Have called Canmore who own our building as there are two very large ex bin stores that are supposed to be closed but keep getting broken into so that lazy @®$£#0¬£$ can dump their bed/couch/tv for the rest of the residents to pay for uplift instead of calling the council.
I have requested these get turned into bike stores before as there are a dozen or so that have been rusted to the railings they were chained to before I moved in and now glued to the floor with pigeon $#!7
With 4 bikes stored at the bottom of the stairwell I gave up parking there as it was a nightmare of pedals and spoke tanglement and put hooks in the hall for our two which I could reclaim for sledge/wellies space
Hopefully Canmore will look at this in a better light now...

Am intrigued by this offer, but am not at all sure how it would work. the range of options of stands etc is massive and confusing. I don't know how to even start thinking about what would suit/fit our stairway (unfortunately our understair cupboard is full of lawnmowers, otherwise it would make a perfect bike store)and suspect that we would want/need support in installing it - even if it were just hooks or pulley, I am loathe to start drilling in communal walls/ceilings.

Will be interesting to know if anyone takes up the offer, how much they save, and how it all works.

This just arrived via Pedal Porty:

Edinburgh residents have the opportunity to buy bike racks and other storage equipment at reduced cost from the City Council if ordered by January 17th.
The equipment can be ordered for tenements or other residential locations and will be installed by mid-February. The move is part of the Council's Active Travel action plan to increase bike ownership and use in the city. Delivery charges will be shared, significantly reducing costs.
Those interested should make sure they select equipment which meets relevant security and convenience needs. Residents are being encouraged to talk to neighbours, landlords and other relevant persons, especially if there is a common stairwell, garden or back-green.
The offer only applies to Edinburgh City Council residents.
Contact mark.symonds@edinburgh.gov.uk for details.
