Just spotted the news that Yorkshire won this, for 2014 anyway, paying £4m hard cash plus campaigning costs. We've probably enough to be going on with for now, with the trams.

Between us we've got plenty of bikes, Recombadna can drive the team van. Uberuce probably knows some dodgy blokes who can provide performance supplies. Kaputnik and WC can do the team kit. There is plenty of spanner time between us and a few drivers

The rest is just a matter of fitting motors in the bottom bracket...

Sponsorship? Quite a bit of wonga required for bikes, team kit, radios, support mechanics, cars, etc.

Oh, then there's the small matter of qualifying, membership of UCI, etc.

:-?

"
Hello,

I am looking to speak to cycling groups/experts/enthusiasts ahead of Thursday's council meeting to consider a bid to bring the Tour de France to Scotland. I appreciate the cyclists using the forum might not be involved in this competitive event, but I would like to hear from some local groups on what they think of the bid.

Please let me know if you would be interested.

Kind regards,

Rebecca

Just had the following helpful insight into why no prologue from cycling journalist Lionel Birnie ‏(@lioneljbirnie):

"
This line about ASO not liking prologues has been a bit over blown.

Jon Clay simply said ASO are not fixed on a prologue as viewing figures for them tend to be among lowest of the Tour

Fact is, to win this bid, it needs 4 days; day 3 of which in Wales and day 4 ending near airport so prologue wouldn't work.

"A two-man technical delegation from ASO visited Edinburgh last month to study potential routes"

No chance of Princes Street.

QBC must be the obvious way south...

Could be as soon as 2014:
Jings
But it would unfortunately appear that the ASO have gone off prologues, which scuppers the idea of a tour of Edinburgh landmarks somewhat. Still, some TdF is a lot better than no TdF.

The Cooncil had better get an erse on with the tram and sticking the showpiece segregated cyclelanes on Leith Walk then, eh?
