I rode the shorter route at the weekend. The Talla climb is tough, but as a shortish sharp climb it's over relatively quickly. Pretty brutal though. The route was lovely apart from that. I would say that the road surfaces between St Mary's Loch and Traquair are unmade (loose stone chips) for large sections (must be a resurfacing programme going on), but hopefully these will be finished for the day. I'm doing the longer route on the day.

Wondering who is doing the TotB this year and whether anyone is changing down to the shorter route. Feeling reasonably confident in getting round the full route myself (did 100km with 600m ascent at the weekend and 50km with 1100m a week prior) but my fiancee is less sure given how steep some of the climbs are (Tala at the start...). She's been covering the same distances but has had to get off on some of the steeper hills

Any comments on difficulty and previous experiences would be useful as we need to decide by next Monday which route we want
