Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery on the Water of Leith walkway. A 58-year-old woman was walking west along when a male attempted to steal her handbag at around 4pm on Friday. He then ran off empty-handed along the walkway towards Coburg Street

Don't recognise the footbridge in the picture. Perhaps stock image of bobby on beat.

Just to warn all two-wheelers using the WOL path down towards Leith. The bridge that runs under Newhaven Road has been renovated lately, but the bods that have done it haven't exactly been Kim-&-Aggie in their clean-up approach, meaning that there's a Flintstone-set-designer's-wet-dream amount of rocks lying about there. Coming home the other night, and doing about 20mph in the dark but with adequate lighting, I slammed right into one of these lovely nuggets and had a painful reunion with terra firma. Thanks to the unknown soldier that stopped to see if I was ok (I was, besides a swellbow and a shredded Rapha jersey). I can't be sure, but it seemed unusual that a 8" piece of rock found its way into the middle of the path under a dark bridge without some human intervention. So, take it easy coming through there from now on unless you're running some full-beam lighting set-
