Hello all,

I'm looking for a bit of advice, I'm riding TOTB on Sunday morning and it looks like it's going to be a bit on the windy side. I've invested in a bit of bike 'bling' and got a set of 50mm deep rim wheels and haven't tested them in anything too windy. With forecasted gusts of 35-40mph, has anyone had experience riding these types of wheels in windy conditions? Should I stick the Zondas back on, or risk it? I'm 80kg btw.

Thanks in advance.

The blustery weather today reminded me that McDonald Road could take some beating in a "windiest road in Edinburgh" contest - any other contenders out there?

I have, obviously, no scientific data of any sorts...

The great thing about living east of work, on windy days like today, you travel at the speed of light!

The down side is obvious. Hey ho! Like my cycling mentore told me "the wind is your friend. Head down, low gear, it's perfect training!"

Now this is a different matter to cycling in the rain. I know a lot of die-hard cyclists who left the bike at home today. Not that I was one of them. Foolhardy? Perhaps, but the pedestrians seemed to be struggling with their brollies more than I was with the bike.

AND it should be a tailwind going home...

The forecast this morning said something about gales this afternoon?

http://www.geos.ed.ac.uk/abs/Weathercam/station/hour.html

(edit: that might have been for the highlands though, met office says nothing about it).

(edit 2: 24-hours looks nicer... http://www.geos.ed.ac.uk/abs/Weathercam/station/24hours.html )
