Home made tattie scones, mushroomns, toms, poached eggs and muffins on the brunch menu also tasty (I asked for double tattie scones and no beans - this was the right thing to do]. Some of their main courses can be pricey but the 12-5 brunch ain't too dear.</p> <p>Was the Empire formerly Toast? One cafe at top of Victoria St - now I think Pierre Victoirish. Me and the jakeys in there nursing hangovers with herbal teas. Man, it was an outrage. Glasgow was wall to wall coffee on a sunday.</p> <p>Now all is equal, though I have yet to find a cafe in Edinburgh that serves crinkle cut chips like the Equi Coffee BAr of Sauchiehall St used to do before it went posh. </p>
