"
I read this as "some are only tangentially interesting" ... :)

"
That's obviously just the ones who never post.

@Greenroofer

Too kind - 'cos it's only partly true.

Like today - I'm about the only person who posted anything - everyone is out cycling - to Peebles or somewhere.

"(tries) to keep us on the straight and narrow"

Like the brackets.

Nah, reason this all works is that an interesting mix of people have somehow come together who happen to like riding bikes and they are not (all) obsessive about it.

Some are only tangentially interested in cycling...

I think a large part of the success of this forum is down to the guiding hand of the mysterious chdot, who posts interesting things for us to think/talk/write about when conversation has lulled and (tries) to keep us on the straight and narrow when it's in danger of getting out of hand.

"(The only improvement I could suggest is some sort of flag to mark if threads have new posts since your last visit..)"

Don't think it's an option in the software.

All posts topics are listed on front page in order with most recent at top (with time of latest post marked), so as long as you remember roughly when you last visited you shouldn't miss anything.

Tsk, and there was me thinking you'd noticed my built from scrap commuting hybrid just passed the thousand mile mark ;-)

Nah, joking aside, well done the forum peeps!

This new topic should be given the artificially magic number of 1000

I have no idea if comparable forums get to 1000 quicker - not that that should be seen as a sign of anything!

In fact, let's be honest, there is no other forum like this!!

It's a real forum where people with a real interest in cycling/riding bikes (predominantly in Edinburgh) 'meet' - some have even met in 'real' life.

'We' don't always agree, there are 'certain topics' with deeply held views on both sides of a trench.

There have also been times when people have admitted they've changed their opinions.

'We' have also been instrumental in some minor infrastructure changes.

In the longer term highlighting things that bother 'us' will show that there are 'issues' that need looking at.

The really great thing about this forum is that 'we' are not all the same sort of 'cyclists'.

Most seem to cycle to work, some have 'for ever' others only very recently. 'Experienced' people have been advising 'novices' in a friendly, helpful fashion.

Long may it continue.
