That's where one finds route 1! I did wonder about this on the day as I seen the signs but could find the interception point. Does this route involve the plunge down to the north Esk then a serious hill back up? Turn first right after the roundabout on the Bonnyrigg Distributor Road* towards Carrington. From there follow Route 1 signs past Temple and then right at Middleton. After that it's next right and then on and up the hill. Left at the top, beautiful ride through the Granites, straight on at turnoff for Heriot and you'll find yourself in Innerleithen presently.
