From there follow Route 1 signs past Temple

AH HA! That's where one finds route 1! I did wonder about this on the day as I seen the signs but could find the interception point. Does this route involve the plunge down to the north Esk then a serious hill back up? I went Gilmerton way to take advantage of the road bridge.

I used B701 Oxgangs/Frogston/Captain's when I had to get from the Gyle to Gilmerton, although I concede that I am confident in fast traffic so it might not mean much that I don't recall it ever being a hairy route.

Argh! That Kappers is the fly in my ointment a second time...

Granites is a nice way to arrive in Peebles.

I'd take the RR route (Frogston Road then Captains Road) from Oxgans to Gracemount, then turn down the Lasswade Road and through Bonnyrigg to the Cockpen Road. Turn first right after the roundabout on the Bonnyrigg Distributor Road* towards Carrington. From there follow Route 1 signs past Temple and then right at Middleton. After that it's next right and then on and up the hill. Left at the top, beautiful ride through the Granites, straight on at turnoff for Heriot and you'll find yourself in Innerleithen presently. From there, cross the river, turn right at Tracquair, pass through Cardrona and then approach Peebles from the south bank of the Tweed.

Home via Meldons a nice route also.

Good question, last time I tried it I went via innerleithen all good except using the A7 to access the back road to inners.

Any ideas on the best way of escaping Oxgangs area (and arriving in Peebles) without going on some kind of suicidal sparring with busy trunk roads? I'll be riding with someone not overly confident with fast moving traffic.

Cheers!
