"This presentation has already been delivered to a group of city planners who received it positively."

It really is about time "city planners" knew what a 'good idea' was without being told by Spokes!,

As I have said before it sometimes seems that CEC 'relies' on Spokes.

Spokes has been 'advising' the council(s) for 36 years - probably longer than staff have been in most relevant posts.

Spokes has undoubtedly got politicians to change policies and proclaim that Edinburgh is (more of) a cycling city. It's also played a major part in getting a rising cycle budget - and getting it to pay for things like off-road gritting.

But somehow the 'good stuff' doesn't filter to the planners who allow things like the new one way street without contraflow at Fountainbridge or the people who design the road crossings or plonk smooth sheets of metal over potholes, etc. etc.

I'm surprised to see Slateford Green held up as a shining example! It's a right pain to navigate round that place by bike.

That said, it's a very good presentation. It raises the lack of cycle parking at the various new "metro" supermarkets we were discussing on the Dundee Street pinch-point thread.

Spokes* have published a really good presentation on the problems, missed opportunities & planning failures of new 'developer contributed' routes such as the Canal Basin - Festival Sq.:

http://www.spokes.org.uk/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/1401-final-MP+PH-PlanningandCycling_annotated.pdf

This presentation has already been delivered to a group of city planners who received it positively.

* Note this presentation was put together by 2 Spokes volunteers & does not necessarily represent the views of Spokes

Other presentations/talks here: http://www.spokes.org.uk/wordpress/documents/odds-and-ends-may-be-exciting/talks-about-spokes/

@gembo, there's now a tree between the entry coded door used by staff (to the right of the main entrance) and the Morrison Street pavement edge, with 2 stands on one side and 3 on the other forming a line parallel with the street.
There's another 10 of these to the left of the main back entrance of the separate office space building.

"they've made it as awkward as possible for both pedestrians & cyclists to traverse the '3/4 circle building' between Fountainbridge & Morrison St."

Nothing new though(?)

That route has a kind of 'unwelcoming feel' to cyclists. You almost feel like you shouldn't be there.

Plus, they've made it as awkward as possible for both pedestrians & cyclists to traverse the '3/4 circle building' between Fountainbridge & Morrison St.

Still, it's more inviting than Lothian Rd... Grateful for small <strike>things</strike> scraps

Between the two conference centres and comes out at the pedestrian crossing? Good show. Any sign of the bike racks being reinstated?
