I'd love to say it was me and my novelty antlered swimming cap, but I only frequent the western shores... :p

the answer is probably dog

Or seal.

"you have to wonder where this creature was trying to get to"

me being a cynic, I presume it's a question of 'what was it trying to get away from'. and that the answer is probably dog.

This is brill. As kaputnik says, deer aren't averse to swimming, and can go remarkable distances, but you have to wonder why and where in this case!

What an unusual and rare thing to see - was it a male deer? Ive read of Red Deer will swim Sea Lochs or to/from some of the west coast islands, but you have to wonder where this creature was trying to get to. Or maybe it just liked swimming.

After a lack-lustre visit to the hides at the lagoons this afternoon, my pal and stopped on the way back to mouth of the Esk to see what another two birdwatchers were looking at. I was astonished to see a deer swimming 100 meters off-shore towards Prestonpans. It was swimming strongly but with the current, then a seal popped up beside it, and it turned immediately and headed towards Levenhall. Also saw a gannet and my first swifts of the year.
Cheers
Colin
