I was meaning BbVP - pleasant recreational route

Coming out of town directly also involves Kirk Brae.

Yes, that was my concern.

"Does anyone have a map of the new route?"

I'm sure CEC does.

Basically it's on the old railway line from the bypass (where Midlothian tarmacced to ages ago) to the bridge over Lasswade Road.

Then (I think) on a widened bit of pavement (like at Seafield) along Lasswade Road. I'm assuming that's where it will connect with Braidburn Valley Park - which wouldn't be my idea of a main commuter route.

Can anyone plot this on a map? Sounds like good news, if it's a direct route out, nice and wide and not a classic recreational winder-and-weaver.

[Edit - Eddie beat me to it :)]

"
We then hope to work with CEC to get a route from there to at least Lasswade Road next year. This would create a good link out of the City.

CEC time is always +1 (year).

When I first moved down here I lived in Mayfield, just south of Dalkeith, and had a Spokes map of the period (2000), which had a note on the Sherrifhall bit of the map stating "Footbridge planned" or something similar.

How about a cycle bridge over Sheriffhall, Midlothian Council, <strike>after all you already have cash for it</strike>.
btw back on topic, yes, that seems like good news!

[don't read the comments - as well as the usual there's now a sexist 70s 'phwoar' line]

Great news, and about time. So what about a tunnel under Sherrifhall as well? I mean, I know it would mean a brand new tunnel as no other tunnels are already planned in the near vicinity...

p.s. interesting that it is actually lauded as a 'safe' route, is that not an admission that the roads aren't safe enough? Why would that be?

Yaaaay! If I'm cycling towards town I hate having to come off the railway line at Straiton and dealing with the horrid roundabout at Straiton. The straiton-Penicuik corridor is marked as Midlothian's development corridor and traffic there is getting heavier and heavier with the road condition getting poorer and poorer (and motorists patience with cyclists getting thinner and thinner).
