@Baldcyclist: Nothing. Never felt it was worth selling so it's been sitting about doing sod all for several years. It's yours.

Dismantled calliper as much as is possible (BB5 it seems has sealed bearings), soaked in penetration fluid for 18 hours, put it all back together.... meh, still seized solid. :(

@allebong, how much do you want for that calliper?

I have a BB5 calliper knocking around you can have. Missing the pads and the little cable pinch bolt thing but it works.

I've had siezed BB5's before. Inattention to cleaning properly led to me completely mashing the loosening screws. Have however managed to salvage one with a night of rather tedious cleaning but they are pretty simple mechanical beasts for easy maintenance and cleaning.

Oh aye, wee tip from a friend. Website Superstar components stocks replacement pads for all sorts of brake types including BB5s. You can even mix and match different types.

What is the plus-gas you talk of Coxy?

This is the mechanical/cable one? I've fixed a seized one before, they're pretty hardy devices and can take some extream treatment.

Remove from bike. Take out pads and soak in plus-gas overnight.

I need to replace my Avid BB5 Rear brake calliper (is it a calliper withs discs?) on the commuter as it's seized.
Any recommendations for a similar replacement, or is the BB5 as good as any at that price point?

Will be nice to have a rear brake again!
