Fimm I'm curious about what makes the track itself different...

It probably isn't the actual track but just things like access and hoists to help people onto bikes/trikes etc. Maybe visual aids for people with poor eyesight. Just guessing mind you!

Sounds like a great thing and especially good that it is not in Glasgow or even Edinburgh but Somewhere Else that isn't Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Found this through a quick Google, Fimm:

The new track, which will offer time trial technology, will be available for use by disabled and able bodied cycling clubs, by appointment. Local schools and community groups will also be able to use the new facility. In time, the aim is to create a multi purpose facility which is also open to runners and will include a BMX track.

The centre will offer a variety of specialist bicycle models to meet the different needs of its users, including tricycles for added stability, arm powered handcycles, tandems for visually impaired cyclists, and detachable tandems for wheelchair users.

...

“This is very much a community facility, and we will be encouraging local schools, community groups and cycling clubs to use the centre. Our aim is to provide a sporting facility where the emphasis is on ability, rather than disability.”

I'm curious about what makes the track itself different... From the report there are various kinds of special cycles available, but is there anything special about the track?

It is a Good Thing, anyway.

"What has been described as Scotland's first purpose-built cycling track for disabled people has been opened by Paralympic cyclist Karen Darke.

The 1km track at Cantray, near Inverness, has been constructed at a cost of £250,000."
