Might get folder then on bike to work. OMG, I will have to go to Evans for that, silly old council (I have been in Evans and was nice but CEC + EBC better, neither good for small shops selling bikes)

As far as I am aware, it's still 'no bikes for for the first six months - then on a trial basis'.

I remember some comment that the initial period of operation will not allow bikes on. Maybe they are going to be busy?

Position on bikes appears to have varied over time.?

Does anyone know if has this been clarified yet?

i.e. the article talks about a trial and how it is 'expected' to work - nothing I can see on the trams website?

Given they are supposed to start operating in anger next month........

Practically speaking, it's always going to be at the driver's discretion.

For comparison purposes, a quick Google search suggests that you are not allowed to take a bike on the tram in Copenhagen or Amsterdam in rush hour. Outside of rush hour, you have to pay a supplement to get your bike on board in Amsterdam. Dunno if anyone has direct experience of this?

I'd imagine it's at the driver's/conductor's discretion anyway. Let's look on the bright side: it's not a total ban as elsewhere in the UK...

I'm now convinced that most posters on the Scotsman are actually just semi-intelligent computer programs. I mean, no human could so obsessively track down any slight mention of bicycles and then spew forth a full buzzword bingo card of cliches (haven't seen 'bicycle terrorists' or 'green fascists' yet though).

Comment of the day goes to the sanctimonious tw*t saying 'this discussion is about bikes and trams not motorists!' yeah since everbody else was keeping completely on topic and not discussing cyclist behavior outside of the trams eh?

As for the actual proposal I can already see a lot of friction developing. What if, despite it being rush hour, there's enough room on the tram for a bike? Not allowed on? What if there's a person with a buggy? What if there's a person with a child on the bike in a seat? Might we get on during rush our if the bike is obviously broken, but not otherwise? Why might they let on, say a young woman with a broken bike if it's dark and wet outside, but not let on a lycra clad male roadie in the same circumstance? The mind boggles.

Well maybe Sir Chris could have a word with the coocil about allowing commuter bikes on the trams, so he can sell more bikes... ;-)

Also:

Cllr Hinds said councillors had noted the [] levy’s initial success but stressed: “At the moment, there is no proposal for a business parking levy.”

SO there we have it, Cllr Hinds isn't interested in taking on ideas from other place which work! She doesn’t want to make the city a better place to live!
