Outside of rush hour, you have to pay a supplement to get your bike on board in Amsterdam. What if, despite it being rush hour, there's enough room on the tram for a bike? Not allowed on? What if there's a person with a buggy? What if there's a person with a child on the bike in a seat? Might we get on during rush our if the bike is obviously broken, but not otherwise? Why might they let on, say a young woman with a broken bike if it's dark and wet outside, but not let on a lycra clad male roadie in the same circumstance?
