Well actually TdF1998...

Regarding info on new +ves from that Tour. Jonathan Vaughters in midst of a conversation about that tour and him saying names useless, and that 100% of athletes in that tour were on EPO. One commentator says. "But Boardman wore the yellow Jersey, and won the Prologue that year and was never +ve", and then the implied bombshell from Vaughters....

"

Yes, it was rather moving speech. I agree that a little magnanimity to his rivals would have been a nice touch. Is it just me or did I notice body language issues between Froome and Quintana on the podium? Seemed to me Froome was looking anywhere but in Quintana's direction, even turned slightly away from him. Sees a threat perhaps?

Anyway, good write up here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/23400120

I really liked the nocturne finish, it seemed to make the finale that bit more showbizzy. And perhaps the traffic diversions required to allow the loop around the Arc de Triomphe are easier to achieve in the evening ? I hope they adopt the same in future.

Good speech from Froomedog, the low fives were nice but I wish he'd included congratulations to Quintana and Rodrigues.

Frome article:
"
The leadership debate at Team Sky has been emphatically resolved. The question now is how many more Tours de France can Chris Froome win?
"
I think it has now been confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt that left to his own devices Froome would have won last years tour.

Still, in some respects more kudos to Sky. OK, Froome was their insurance policy in a a sense if Wiggins blew up, but nice to see the recognition of the 4 years of hard work Wiggins had put in to get to where he was, and some loyalty in giving him the senior role in last years tour.

With Sky having a weakened team this year, Froome will have grown up a little and I'm sure with the work that Porte has put in for him, have a little more respect for the role he performed last year.

"

Mont Semnoz will be Chris Froome's final challenge of this year's Tour. If he gets up to the top today without losing his lead over his nearest rivals, then only a crash will stop him reaching Paris and the top of the podium in the race leader's yellow jersey tomorrow, because Sunday's final stage is traditionally a procession for the winner. Not that Froome is taking anything for granted.

Speaking ahead of today's stage, he said: "It's going to be very hard for someone to make up more than five minutes on the general classification. But having said that, this is a day where the whole team has to stay alert, control that last stage with one final big effort, and then we can start relaxing on the ride into Paris."

"
Just to recap, we have not seen any attacks from Alberto Contador or Nairo Quintana, who lie second and third overall in the general classification, on the race leader Chris Froome.

The British rider has a lead of five minutes and 11 seconds, with just one stage of racing for the yellow jersey remaining after this one (Sunday is traditionally a procession into Paris for the winner, and the only fight is for the sprint on the Champs Elysees).

Have Froome's rivals thrown in the towel? It looks that way... although there is still time for a few fireworks at the end of today's stage.

Must have been psychological as take a little while to kick in these gels? He also atacked too early so he didn't play the stage right and still got away with it. To or row should be good too.

Porte hauled him up again and quite ironic that porte had to be reeled in for Froome same as Froome had to come back for Bradley

Very enjoyable so far, but sadly marred by the repeated appearances of polka dot shorts. They are bad enough when worn by the rightful owner of the jersey but when worn as they were yesterday by the rider in 3rd place, well that's just unacceptable.

All I can really say of today's race is "Awww, di dums"

Contador going too fast for poor Froome, attacking on a descent, awww, bad Contador.

Poor Contador being attacked by Quintana when he fell off, awwww, bad Quintana. Contador obviously has a short memory!

I saw Kraftwerk perform Tour de France last Friday - nothing to do with this thread, just thought I'd brag.

(I am enjoying this years TdF - there have been some really good stages, and some wonderful upsets)

Team Sky look set for a long day of hard toil back in the peloton. Geraint Thomas is at the head of the field churning out the hard miles with his team-mates tucked in behind.
