The council wardens did the "spray paint the poo" technique on the path between Telfer Subway, through the old Dalry Road station recently. There was a carpet of red-painted poo piles from one end to the other, right past the kids playground (which I've only ever seen adults drinking white lightning in).

In my 3rd year at Uni, we lived in University houses down by East Sands beach in St Andrews. People used to park their cars in the residence car park to take their dogs a walk on the beach, and let them poo on the grass outside the houses. When caught not picking it up, we used to hang out the upstairs window and threaten to follow them home and poo in their front garden at night.

"
Sighthill and Gorgie, named and shamed as the worst place for pet poo, will be high on the list after it topped the pole for complaints with more than 200 made in the last 12 months.

They will be needed least in Morningside, which was the cleanest zone, with just 39 complaints in the same period.

we've got a dalmatian in our stair that was bad like that too when they moved in. owners seemed oblivious that we didn't want stinking puddles right in front of stair door and that neighbours didn't want it in front of their gates. we made a big show of taking buckets of water with cleanser in it out, and eventually it seemed to improve/they seemed to learn.

Problem in Corstorphine with a woman who brings her two massive dogs (ST Bernard and Dalmatian) to urinate on shop windows, flat doors, bins and recycling.

Same spots at similar times of the day. She's had several people complain but just gives them lip back.

These dogs produce a lot of urine (pints of pi$$ as my wife so eloquently puts it) and it does make the place stink, not to mention the shop owners having to repeatedly clean their bins to bring them through the shop or the bin men who have to handle the recycling boxes covered in the fragrant golden elixir.

Because it's not poo she can just carry on as it is not an offence, despite being very offensive.

There still seem to be quite a few no-pickup offenders around the Hailes Park bit of the canal path. I surprised one tonight who was 20 yards from his dog, watching it, but clearly hoping not to be spotted ignoring the (sizeable) problem. For this and other general outbreaks of muppetry in the last few days, it's time to charge up the handlebar camera...

Poo in a bag abandoned / tied to a tree / fencepost has to be one of the stupidest possible things

Indeed! I assumed (note: guesswork) that the people who did this thought it preferable to leaving the crap on the ground, where nature would eventually take care of it. I honestly don't know which is worse, tbh. I see no problem carrying a bag o' crap with me when I'm walking the dogs. It isn't exactly a hardship, and shows people I do actually pick up!

I recently saw an advert for a container to hang from the dog's collar. Poo goes in plastic bag, bag goes in (washable) container, dog gets to carry its own poo!

Homeless hostel gets blame in the Johnston Terrace area - but there are some local owners who consider that their <strike>children</strike> dogs can do no wrong.

They'll moan that the streets aren't as clean as they should be whilst Rover defecates while they look the other way.

Who goes to the trouble of picking up poo (which is a good thing to do) just to abandon it hanging around the place?

I believe this is sometimes people who don't want to go their whole walk swinging a bag of poo (if no disposal facilities nearby) and so hang it on a branch to pick up on their way back.

One can only presume that something terrible must be happening to a lot of dog walkers post-poo that means they never make it back...

I'm a dog owner who picks up.

The people who don't tend to be those who do not have their dog on a lead and thus "don't see" their dog crapping. At least, in my area anyway. Not justifying it *at all*, mind you, but if you see a crapping dog with no owner in sight, what can you do?

I have considered picking it up in a bag and tying it to the dogs collar, but have never actually done it. Probable legal consequences...

Its not just in town, I was cycling on a track near crieff on saturday, and (irony) had to pop behind a tree for a call of nature.

Got back to my bike to spot fresh dog poo all over my right sole, into SPDs etc - still feel sick thinking about the cleanup........

Aye.

One of those things where the "law abiding majority" are let down by the lazy, rude or down-right anti-social minority.

Judging by the quantity and frequency of dog-egg incidents in the vicinity of my flat, there must be one dog owner in the area who doesn't pick up after their dog, and it's fair to say it's made me eye all dog-walkers using the street with suspicion.
