Glad you made it Hankchief. i thought it sounded like fun, but we were busy all morning.

We did make it to the skelf, which was fun, although not exactly as advertised. When/if it happens, I'm sure it will be great.

Sunday 16th Morning: Ride Forth Road Bridge Unicycle Challenge join 10-year-old Brianna as she unicycles across the Forth Road Bridge over the Firth of Forth. Brianna is a Climate Justice Ambassador, she is doing this to raise money for planting 2,500 trees with Plant-for-the-Planet to combat the climate crisis and secure a future for her generation. Families welcome to cycle across with Brianna, on one wheel or two (but no tall bikes). Ride Starts 10.30, South Queensferry.

Thanks for putting the notice up SRD.

HankChief Jnr & I had a lovely ride out to SQ to accompany Brianna & team across the bridge.

She managed it very well and avoided the various charity walkers, and has raised £600 to plant more trees. Link to Charity page

I think the SKELF is a great initiative and I am looking forward to seeing it.

If it is showery tomorrow then there are the indoor events for families Bike Polo and Unicycling at the Jack Kane Centre, watch the demonstrations and have ago, fun for all the family!

Sadly tomorrow looks like it might involve some rain.

I would urge any of you with an interest in 'cycling', activity, 'local facilities' , etc. to pop by this one for a few minutes. (If it's raining things will be in the Crags Centre).

This is due to be the next little thing - a bit like Cyclone only in the centre of town!

Mini-mini-Glentress (not just for kids).

A couple of local people noticed a bit of neglected woodland and thought "what if". They have got together a group of people (I have been peripherally involved) and got the support of local councillors and CEC officials. As a result it should 'happen' next year.

All levels of support welcome - even just the time it takes to turn up tomorrow and drink a cup of coffee!

Thought I would just flag these family friendly/ kid-oriented events on this weekend. There may be more that I've not spotted - please add!

Sat 15th Cycle Speedway Taster Session for children. Children will be given expert coaching on how to ride Cycle Speedway bikes safely around the Redbraes Park cycle speedway track before having the opportunity to take part in some practice training races. There will also be demonstrations by riders from the Edinburgh Falcons Cycle Speedway Team and youth teams from Edinburgh schools. Bikes and helmets will be provided but long trousers (not too baggy), a long sleeved top and gloves are strongly recommended for riding on the blaze track. Children between the age of 10 and 16 accompanied by parent/responsible adult. Starts 10:00 Finish 16:00 (approx). Entry Free.

Sat 15th The SKELF Bike Skills Park Launch Day and BBQ – The SKELF is the cool new bike skills park planned in the centre of Edinburgh (at the Braidwoods between St Leonards and Dumbiedykes). This fun and informal launch event is a chance to find out more about the proposals and experience first-hand the Braidwood proto-trails (on a tandem MTB no less), listen to (possibly) shady music on Hubstep (pedal powered PA system), get your bike fixed, and maybe even eat from the BBQ. Starts 10:00 Finish 14:00 Free

Sunday 16th Edinburgh’s Hills Ride: A 26 mile tour, taking in Calton Hill, Holyrood Park – circling Arthur’s Seat, Craigmillar Castle, Braid Hills, Easter Craiglockhart and Corstorphine Hills, and Ravelston Woods. The effort is rewarded by the commanding views over Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth. 2,900 feet of ascent and descent. Lead by Storybikes £20 (£15 Concession). Suitable for adults & older children. Starts 13:30, finish around 18:00. Book here.
