@counterculture - sounds like my routine, scenic routes rock. Extra distance on home run along the trinity-roseburn cycle path with a stop for a swim at Ainslie Park when training for the swimathon(.org)

my current commute is a mere 3.5 miles, elm row to morningside via north bridge and the meadows, although it will increase when i move house next month......by around 600 yards, however i tend to take the scenic route on the way home (10 miles or so) or go for a swim to keep the physical side of things going, then go for a slightly longer jaunt on days off, hangover permitting.

alas I sold my fixed last year to revamp my steel heavy tourer. I rode fixed from 2006- early 2009 though. I was a trend setter . . .

in the market for a bit of an around towner - maybe once I fix and sell my orbea.

Suppose I better introduce myself as well - don't want to start a new thread though - found this through twitter.

I started cycling properly when I came to uni and brought my dads old Steel Raleigh who's only defining feature is its odd sized headset.

I got fairly into it and started rebuilding it and at the end of my first year did a 32 day tour of Cuba with a buddy. 850+ miles over 22 days cycling. Incredible.

Have now done 4000+ miles of touring over the past few years. I like to set challenges so did Brussels - Paris on a fixed gear Spec Langster (5x100 mile days), Belgium - Barcelona (900 miles in 10 days) on an Orbea,
and various other bits and pieces.

I also spent years working on the Rickshaws in Edinburgh (3 years) and one year running the company.

I now cycle the old reliable raleigh, the Orbea is up on the blocks at the moment, I have a Specialised Tricross Comp and a BMX for looking ridiculous on (6'3'' +105kg)

Look forward to chatting to you all!

"btw I got this when trying to post this message after editing last... "Slow down; you move too fast."

Never actually seen it, but I believe it's an anti-spam measure to stop multiple posts.

So you DO move too fast!

"mad house"

I'm OK with that - it can be sometimes - not sure where it is on a scale of words/phrases 'polite society' avoids(?)

Hello!!

i found this forum completely by accident, about 3 hours ago now, i cant even remember how i got here, but its pretty good craic.

im glad i found this, i usually post on bikeradar but no ive found somewhere i can moan about local roads and paths and more than 2 people will know what im talking about, awesome!!

Ive been cycling regularly, commuting and mountain biking, for about 6 years now, give or take a month or 5 here and there from injuries (and resulting weight gain), im just about to get my first "road" bike, while not strictly a road bike, Ridley Crossbow (id've found it hard to stay off the bumpy stuff), i cant wait to get a few more km/h out of my commute and do some proper road miles without the hindrance of suspension and chunky tyres.

so anyway, thats the out the way, get ready for some bitchin and moaning

regards
