There was a thief operating down south who used to get on trains wearing a hi vis jacket and carrying a helmet, then as it came into a stop, just pick up a brompton from near the door and he'd be off and out before its owner could stop him. I'm not sure if they ever caught him.

Locked and in secured close apparently. Met a regular on 07.59 SVG-KGX (a train I occasionally catch). His Brompton was locked in lobby of offices he works at in London, with a staffed reception desk to cover activity in lobby area. Two 'visitors' arrived and as one distracted the receptionist, second one fully equipped cut lock and went out with bike, flipped it in to assembled state and rode off.

Obviously well practised in unfolding the bike, and raid very much planned for specified target. I've heard of other raids where quite specific bikes have been taken from garages, closes etc, often because they are kept in the same places on regular pattern of use. Often a site like a garage can be checked out when the doors are open, and notes are taken. A prominent person might even find their attendance at an event provides the intelligence for a raid.

I had a raid by my ex-worked around the times she knew where I was with the children.
